HI ,   You haven't specified the version no of the router. If you would turn the router upside down, you can see the model no and the version no right next to it. Although, the configuration of all the versions would be the same, you still need to make sure it has the latest firmware if its a older version.

Here is what we need to do...

1. Connect the modem to the Internet port of the router
2. Connect the desktop to the port 4 of the router
3. With the router turned on, push the reset button on the router and hold it for 20-30 seconds.
4. Power Cycle: Unplug the power from the router and the modem. Wait 30 seconds and turn on the modem first. Wait 1-2 minutes till the ligts on the modem are steady. Turn on the router.
5. Wait till the lights on the router are all turned on (takes around 1 minute)
6. On the desktop, open your web browser
7. In the address bar, type 192.168.1.1
8. It must prompt you for a username and password
9. Skip the username and type the password - 'admin'
10. That must bring up the setup page of the router
11. There is tab on the top right corner - 'Status'. Click on that
12. In the status tab, you must see the internet ip address - 192.168.1.64, which is the ip address provided by the modem
13. Go back to the setup tab
14. In the setup tab, you would see the local ip address = 192.168.1.1
15. Change it to 192.168.2.1
16. Click on Save Settings (scroll down to the lower end of the screen to see this option)
17. Wait for 30 seconds and close the web browser
18. Power Cycle again (refer step 4)
19. Now internet must work on the desktop
20. By default, the network name (SSID) of the linksys router is - 'linksys'
21. You can go to the laptop(i assume it has windows xp), and try to connect to this network by - right click on the wireless icon in the system tray (on the right bottom corner of the screen) and click on 'view available wireless networks'
22. You must see 'linksys' as one of the available wireless networks
23. Try connecting to it and you laptop must work

Those steps are generalised and you might get stuck in exceptional cases. If this does not work, please initiate a chat session with any of the experts, if this does not work, because this may require some advanced troubleshooting which would not be possible using those short messages.

Good Luck

Reset linksy router b> One of the most common fixes for Internet connectivity often involves resetting the source of your Internet connection. If you have a DSL or cable Internet connection, you may use a Linksys router to get on the Internet. When you reset a Linksys router, you'll likely solve your connection problem.

Turn off the power to your computer's modem. Use the switch on your cable or DSL modem to disable it while you reset the Linksys router. Find the reset button your Linksys router. Most Linksys models have the reset option on the back of the router. Use a pointed pen or pencil to press in the reset button on your Linksys router. Hold down the reset button for approximately 30 seconds. Watch the lights on the front of the router. After you reset the router, power will get restored to the Linksys router. Once power's available, you can switch the modem back on. Reconfigure your router. After you reset your router, you'll have to log in and reconfigure your settings. The login name is typically left empty with your password as "admin."
Reset a Linksys Wireless Router b> You may need to reset your Linksys wireless router if you are having Internet connectivity issues or other networking problems. You can reset the router to the default factory settings, such as the default IP (Internet protocol) address, username and password. However, after you perform the factory reset, you can follow the initial setup instructions to replace your previous settings.

Write down any important settings you may have--such as the router's password--before you reset the router. Locate the reset button on the router. Some Linksys models have a reset button on the back side. Other Linksys models have a small pinhole you may need to access by using the tip of a pen or pencil. Press and hold the reset button for a minimum of 30 seconds to perform a factory reset on the Linksys router. The Linksys router should lose power. Power on the Linksys router to initiate the configuration wizard. Reconfigure any previous wireless settings on your Linksys router.

Hope this helps.

I want to connect a Scientific-Atlanta WebSTAR 2000 series Cable Modem to a Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G wireless router but the linksys doesnt detect the modem and the computer wont let the setup program for...

Most Cable Internet Service Providers (ISPs) use Media Access Control (MAC) Address authentication to establish Internet connection for end-users. MAC address is a unique identifier assigned to the network adapter/s of the computer.
To set up your Linksys router to work with a Cable ISP, you have to enable the MAC Clone feature of the router. MAC Cloning is a procedure which enables a router to copy the MAC address of the computer that's registered with the ISP.
To setup a Linksys router with Cable connection you need to perform four steps using the computer that's been registered with the ISP:
i. Verifying Internet Connection
ii. Connecting Devices Together
iii. Checking the Router's LEDs
iv. Configuring a Linksys Router for a Cable Internet Connection

No internet access with new Linksys wireless PCI Adapter

Don .bin is a firmware that can upload to the linksys router or any router.

So it seems that your unable to connect wirelessly using the linksys adapter? The Internet connection before is working properly?

*I might advise you to reinstall the driver of your wireless adapter using the latest driver that you can download in there support site.

- Check the Internet connection hardwired to the router if connection works it seems that problem is on the adapter.

Connection

Hi Susie
With related to your particular issue it seems like that your broadband modem is not configured for the router. There are basically 2 types of connection. DSL and Cable modem. Verizon, ATT are DSL and comcast other providers give you a normal cable broadband connection. If its comcast make sure the cable from the comcast modem is going to the internet port in the linksys router and also make sure that there is a system connection the linksys router and the cable from the system goes to any of LAN 1, 2, 3 and 4 ports. Then reset your cable modem by using a pin and inserting to the reset hole in the modem. You could use the same step to reset your linksys router as well .If its a verizon or dsl connection you need to put normally your username and password in the router page. here is the link to how to configure linksys for your internet modem.
Here is a video as well on it?

Need to add Linksys WRT54G-TM wireless router with Linksys SPA 2102 phone adapter

your SPA2102-R seems to have one ethernet connection and one internet connection.
your WRT54G-TM seems to have one internet connection and 4 ethernet connections.

What you are trying to achive is; plug a ethernet cable into the ethernet connection on your SPA2102-R then plug the other end into the internet port of the WRT54G-TM

hope this helps, I have assumed that you intend to use a DSL broadband supplier not ADSL.

if you are changing service from DSL to ADSL then your WRT54G-TM needs to be first in line configured and working. then plug the internet port from the SPA2102-R into any of the WRT54G-TM ethernet ports.
