Question about HP Compaq ProLiant DL380 G4 Server

3 Answers

Hard disk space

Our IT said that our Compaq Proliant DL380 can only handle a maximum of 28G Hard Drive because of BIOS age.  We only have about 100mg of free space left on a Novel platform.  Is there an updated BIOS Flash that will enable us to install a larger Hard Drive?  If so, please paste the link.

Thanks,

Ed

Thanks, 28 was a typo. It's two 18.2g drives linked to make 36.4g. I have already cheked with the HP site and there wasn't any BIOS updates that I could find.

hi, rack of HP ProLiant servers is fairly easy to manage the cables at the rear by installing the included cable arms and a few ties; try repeating for a rack of DL360 1U pizza box servers and problems rapidly ensue. This doesn't account for cable length sometimes being inadequate or overly excessive, and the fact that mounting and connecting cables to servers in the rear of a rack is unpleasant at the best of times, but even worse when 30 other servers are producing heat and making the rear of the rack a pretty hot and unpleasant place.

Check on the HP website for BIOS updates and Firmware updates for your raid controller. This sounds very odd that there is a 28GB limitation on drive size? What size drives are in there now? They usually step up in size like 9GB, 18GB, 36GB, 72GB, etc.... Your IT guy maybe misinformed.

If it can handle the 18Gb drives, then it should be able to handle 36Gb or even 72Gb drives. Unless this is a very old system, this should work. The challenge you might have is finding drives of this size since most modern drives are much bigger in capacity today.

HP Compaq ProLiant DL380 G2 Server won't boot from cdrom

Hello, I think you might find more information on starting up the DL380 G2 at the link shown below:
http://h20566.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c00972124

Also, the replacement instructions, in case it needs to be replaced, (and relevant troubleshooting info) for the 5i controller are found in the link here :http://h20566.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=316587&docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c00688182

Please first make sure that you are using the proper startup boot disk for the server before entering the CD ROM option from the boot menu. Also, check the front panel of the SCSI drives for any errors or blinking LEDS that correspond to an error code. You can run a diagnostics CD/DVD that arrived with the manufacturer's pack to detect any raid issues on startup.

If you are still facing difficulties with booting up the server, you can find a video for replacement of the appropriate scsi drive here if you are still facing any issues of your scsi drive. Try a different hard disk or check the relevant diagnostics to verify whether is the controller or the drive that complicates the booting of the server

For more details check the scsi manual in the link below (section "FBWC LEDs" , pages 15-17).

What's the maximum hard drive I can install in a Compaq SR1420NX I have a 80 hard drive right now I want to install a larger one. Will this computer handle a larger Hard Drive

The BIOS has a max. hard drive size limitation. Check the manual for the maximum size the motherboard can support.
If the maximum size hard disk it can support then you can add a second hard drive in the computer as a SLAVE hard drive to double your disk space capacity.

I have HP PROLIANT DL 380 (G4). I removed hard disk. Its start and few seconds restart again. its happening continuously. Any solution.

need to provide moreinfo.
is the server (prolaint DL380) constantly rebooting within BIOS mode or has it got to the stage of running windows.
The other item not mentioned here, is, IF the raid controller has failed, you will not see any disks initializing and would cause the system to continually reboot.
If it is an internal raid controller, it is part of the motherboard, you will need to contact HP to have it replaced.

If an pci related array controller .. i.e. separate to the motherboard, this will need to be replaced to see the HDD's.
Either way sounds like a hardware issue. Best to liaise directly with vendor to have the faulty components replaced.

How do i boot a compaq proliant dl380 with a usb drive set up for booting?

Hello,

Make sure you have turned on the USB Boot in the BIOS of the os. Once this is done, select the order you would like for the server to locate boot files. (Hard Drive, USB, CD/DVD, etc.) Once complete, insert the USB and reboot the server.

Good Luck

HP DL380 G4 could not boot up. Nothing display as well. What's wrong with that?

make sure there is no disk in cd rom drive if there remove it and also check the amber led in front panel which is indicating the problem still if you are not able then open it and check the ram. And the power connector in motherboard and also the cmos battery or reset the bios.

Need bootable floppy program for my compaq proliant DL380

If i remember correctly, The Compaq ProLiant doesn't have a boot time BIOS configuration system. You can't hit F2 or F10 or DEL on boot to get to the BIOS. Instead, you have to use DOS/Windows programs for BIOS configuration. You will need the smartstart (anywhere from 350MB to 600MB download) and firmware maintenance CDs (somewhere around 350MB) for your model of Proliant. You can download it from HP. Just start at support.hp.com, select your location, then search on your model.
