Trying to connect laptop to 2WIRE router

I have an IBM T30 laptop with gOS Linux installed. It recognizes the 2WIRE and even claims to be connected. However there is no Internet and FireFox finds no pages. Had the same problem when Windows XP was installed. Any help, suggestions, ideas greatly appreciated. 2WIRE is from ATT U-verse. Frank Arnold franka@svpal.org
