Honda Harmony II HRR 226 mower. drive belt for

Honda Harmony II HRR 226 mower. drive belt for blade broke, I have a new one but replacing it is not straightforward. Anyone have a method for doing this. Problem is there is a shaft on one side of the axle pulley and a tension spring on the other side in a tight space .. like to know the correct procedure without spending $40 for the service manual.

Proper category for lawnmowers did not exist at time of posting.  Problem solved,  panel on underside of mower deck attached with 4 10mm bolt heads must be removed ... then task is obvious.

SOURCE: BLADE DRIVE BELT ADJUSTMENT

Well, most riding mowers have a "pully idler", meaning once you have the belt on there (and it is the RIGHT size), the idler automatically gives the belt tension when you engage it (in fact, the idler pully is what IS engaged when you engage the belly mower).

Couple things to check (super simple):

The Belt. Look to see if she is wore smooth out.
Sometimes....they WILL stretch on you, instead of busting/coming apart, and give you noise (when she is engaged, but wore out enough to flop around a little)

The Deck Blade Bearings. Straight away, that is what it sounds like, or bent blades.

Check your Blade Bearings (super simple):
1. Pick up your deck to the highest high setting (mower off, just sitting).
2. Reach under, and grab your mower blade (do this for both sides), and TILT your blade UP (meaning, don't LIFT the blade straight up).
Seriously, jiggle it at a TILT. If you feel some slack in the bearing, the bearing IS shot. Straight up and down is most of the time OK, IF it is VERY little play on your blade bearings. As you do it, look at your belt pulley directly on top, if you see that pully bobbing....

However, if you grab one side of the blade only, then tilt the blade up, and she moves.....
Bearings need replaced, both the upper AND lower bearings PER blade.

They are not hard to replace, and not expensive either! (Though unfortunately, most are "sealed" junk nowadays!)

Bad Bearings show up (make themselves known) in only a few ways: Tons of Noise (grinding, squealing) & Vibration.

Go check them thar Bearings!

SOURCE: Broken rear axle on my Honda hydrostatic drive push mower

The last time I had a Honda mower in my repair shop I noticed that Honda doesnt do individual parts on its transmissions for mowers OR tillers.

You can fix this mower...but the transaxles are a bit expensive. Honda mowers do tend to be worth it though.

If the axle broke cleanly maybe someone would weld it back together?
I mean, the wheels dont turn that fast that balance would be an issue right? And I am sure the axle metal is cold rolled steel....which is to say it isnt thin cast material that would resist welding. If you take the transmission out of your mower and just take the parts to a good jobber maybe they would give it a try for 10-20 bucks? Dont expect a guarantee...but, for 20 bucks most shops wont even pick up a mower let alone try to fix it.

If this gives you another couple of years of service that would give you time to consider a replacement mower when the unit needs service again.

Good luck and be careful!

The only thing I can suggest to get you in the ballpark of what is wrong or if you can replace what you need replaced is to look on the Poulan website and get a customer service phone number. Chances are they will know exactly what you need. Hardware stores are too broad and it sounds like you need specilized attention.

New honda hrr auto choke hard to start

sounds like it may need the carb clening out, but it could be the auto choke not closing when cold. there was an issue with some of the early auto chokes on the gcv135/160 engines so check to see if the choke flap is in the closed position when starting from cold, run the engine for approx 10-15 minutes and see if the choke flap has opened fully.leave it to go cold and see if the choke flap has returned to the closed position
