Took it to dealership said something with the right front axel popped out put were able to pop it back togather for $100.00 got it back yesterday, went to store this morning and same thing happened! Service manager said it would be fine to drive on for awhile when i picked it up but i needed a new right front axel in time. i plan on taking it back to them tomorrow but i want to look at problem myself. what are they talking about????

The CV joint of the axle most likely at the hub end of axle.contained inside of a rubber boot full of grease.you cant see the actual joint but by graspping the axle and asserting force up/down,left/right you should be able to tell if the joint has "ruptured" or seperated. best fix is ALWAYS a new axle.repairing a boot or joint = $$parts,$$$$labor?
/new axle=$$parts,$labor plus most new after-market axles carry a lifetime warranty and its only a matter of time until the boots dry rot loose grease and go bad.next time only cost labor to switch axle.A "slipping" axle will give a loss of propellsion will actually prevent the transfer of driveline power from transmission to wheels.

My pontiac was leaking tranny fluid bad. It stopped driving, still worked in reverse tho. I

you probably damaged something internally when you ran it out of fluid, unfortunately the only fix is to pull it out and rebuild it

1998 Camry Reverse noises

this really sounds like a broken motor mount / trans mount. An easy way to check is have someone sit in the car and shift into reverse, then to neutral, then to drive. Have your "assistant" do this repeatedly with the hood up, parking brake ON and foot FIRMLY applying the brakes while you watch the motor move. if you can see a big difference in "jump" between reverse and drive, that is a bad mount. The motor will lift or "jump" higher on the broken mount side. if your really not sure then try a gentle power brake in each direction.

1997 pontiac sunfire - I'm hearing a clunking noise occassionally - could be from the front right side, could be from the back right side of the car. Noise has been heard when changing from reverse or park...

Could be a bad c/v joint on the end of the drive axle but can also be just about any of a number of things. You need to get under there and do a good visual inspection. If the rubber boot on the joint is split or torn it's a safe bet that the joint has failed.

2001 grand prix gt freaking out!

Hello and yes this is a major noise. I would check your oil now right before you ever start the oil again. This noise may have been your engine locking up from really low oil levels and excessive heat from a lot of driving. If this is fine contact me again and we will address more problems if their is more. Thank You.

When i put it in reverse it makes a loud clunk

Hi Ali,

This sounds like one or more of your motor/powerplant mounts is broken. Here is an easy test:

Have someone sit in the driver's sear with engine running and trans. in Park.
You stand in front with the hood open. Have them shift from Park to Reverse, and then Drive and back to Reverse and Park, taking time to stay in each gear and give some throttle while holding the brake pedal tight. This will rock or move the engine a certain amount as they shift through the gears and apply power lightly. It will move alot more violently with broken mounts.

If you have a clunking noise on Reverse shifts, you should be able reproduce this with the hood up and pinpoint the noise and/or sight the faulty motor mount with a friend's help. Good luck, I hope this puts you on the right track to fixing this annoying noise.

Sincerely, Tater Todd
