Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I''ve been working on this thing for three weeks now. It is a Dometic Duo Therm model 57915.531 roof top ac on my rv. It will not run. This is what i have done so far: replaced the thermostat, there is voltage to the thermostat; there is voltage to the unit. I replaced the circuit board today (took two weeks to get it from Dometic)but nothing. I don''t know what else to do. It has a new thermostat and a new circuit board. Other than the two capacitors on top at the compressor there is nothing else electrical. What do i do now?

No. The compressor nor the fan comes on. I've replaced the start capacitor which was bad but still nothing.

Fantastic news. It was the start capacitor. Got my AC running and a few spare parts for future problems. Thanks for brainstorming with me.

If you follow the wiring from the compressor and fan, do the run to the controller board, or is the a relay or "contactor" to switch the fan and compressor?

Check the compressor winding resistance from common to start
start to run
run to common
the two lowest should equil the highest
also check shorted to ground
check the capacitors the go bad a lot

Can I recharge a Duo Therm 600315.001 RV Roof mounted air conditioner? It uses R22 refrigerant. If not, where can I find a replacement or can it be serviced somewhere?

I would suggest that you visit an ac specialist shop as all air conditioners( car, truck , house and yours all use the same principle of operation
because it is roof mounted in an RV may be a caravan repair shop that has an ac specialist in the workshop or a truck service shop that installs ac units in truck cabins would be a good place to start

Duo therm ac in my rv quit when the converter burned up does the ac need 12v to work?

there is a fuse located under the shroud on the roof AC on a circuit board that controls the thermostat to turn on the power to the Air Conditioner replace it it is marked F-1 or, on some F-2 etc.
the air conditioner works on both DC voltage for the thermostat and AC voltage for the compressor

I HAVE DOMETIC DUO-THERM PENGUIN ROOF AIR CONDITIONING ON RV. THE UNIT WILL RUN WHEN PLUGGED INTO ELECTRICITY BUT WHEN GENERATOR POWERED THE AC UNIT KILLS THE GENERATOR ENGINE. WHAT COULD IT BE?

What size & type generator? On start up the AC unit can draw as much as 17-18 amps in some cases, and if your generator is not designed for a quick draw like that it will die.

RV AC is working fine, but the water is leaking from the ceiling Where is the drain tube on the unit, The AC unit is a roof type, Duo Therm serial # 43404934, Part # 3105459

Normally, the condensate will drain out of the unit onto the roof and off the edge to the ground. Remove your cover inside (probably 2 screws) and tighten the 4 bolts you will find inside. If they are tight, go to your RV supply place and get new roof gasket. Remove the AC and insert the new gasket and resecure the AC to your roof.

RV Dometic Duo Therm roof top AC w/heat pump Model #630515.321El Serial #21631212 Yr. 2003. It is the rear unit, front unit working fine. In AC mode it is blowing hot air as if the heat pump is on. Fan...

If the Air comeing out is the same as the temp inside the RV make sure the compressor is running and not just the fans. It could be low on freon. If freon is ok then you would need to ck the wiring to the selector switch for a short. It would be obviouse because there will be melted wires. I am leaning toword low on freon since you have already been inside the wiring/control unit.

Installing rv roof airconditioner heat strip

I see what you see also in the manual. The difference is the Heat Strip package that part is optional and the 600212-001 with the optional heat strips becomes the new 600315-001 I talked to Dometic Duo-Therm and the models are the same but they both are not heat pumps but the new heat strip package comes on when told to go into heat mode when you change the thermostat to heat. The part you purchased will fit both model numbers you listed for your roof top air conditioner. Thanks, Sea Breeze
