Question about Kenmore 53642 / 53644 Side by Side Refrigerator

Open Question

Water not going into icemaker

I have a Kenmore 106.54563300. Check the solenoids, they're good, switch icemaker and water dispenser and it worked. Solenoids not receiving signal from icemaker. Icemaker has two parts. In the front there's a unit that controls min and max ice, the second unit is the motor and the tray itself. Which part needs to be replaced and/or what part in the icemaker sends the signal to the solenoid? Thanks.

My lg refrigerator lsxs26326 is dispensing water but not filling ice tray up. What could be wrong?

the water solenoid valve for the water dispenser is separate from the icemaker water supply solenoid valve . get to the icemaker water supply solenoid and test it if it works alright . unplug the fridge from wall outlet do not close water supply valve. disconnect water tube connection on the water discharge side of the icemaker water supply solenoid valve . pull - out power supply connection of the solenoid coil . connect solenoid valve directly to wall outlet. a faint click should be audible and water should come out from where the tube was removed -- from the water supply discharge side. if no water is coming out with the solenoid plug in , then the solenoid is faulty. but if water comes while solenoid is powered -on , check the position of the icemaker lever. if it is on off position icemaker timer won't activate icemaker water supply valve..move icemaker lever to on and check for water pouring into the icemaker tray' if no water comes out . change the icemaker timer. thanks.

Hello;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

First, If your water dispenser is working, is the water flow strong?
If not, when you lost your water supply, the water supply valve may have become plugged.
You need a water supply of 65 PSI to fill the ice maker.

1.) Check the water pressure - With a measuring cup - run the water from your water dispenser. You should get 15 ounces of water in 8 seconds. If not then you have a plugged water supply valve.

2.) Ice maker frozen fill tube - At times the ice maker fill tube can freeze up. Inspect the fill tube and defrost with a hair dryer.

3.) Start Jump the ice maker - You will need a short piece of 16 gage wire or so, approximately 4" long, with 1.2" striped bare wire at each end.
a.) There is a plastic cover on the front of your ice maker. The cover just pops off. With a butter knife pop off the front cover.
You will see the Control Module.

25604602-imv3tze4snahc4os1l3biiwf-2-0.jpg b.) In the lower left hand corner, you will see two holes 'T' & 'H'.
While holding the freezer door switch in, insert the jumper into these holes. After 8 seconds remove the jumper still holding the light switch in.
Is there vibration?
Is the gap in the center of the gear broken?

You may have a burned out circuit or motor, or broken gearing.

P/N: Substitution: W10190935 Cost: $110.00 (Sears)
A New Ice Maker P/N Part #: 4317943 Cost: $110.00.

Suggestion: Go into eBay, plug in the part number. You can get a new ice maker for $40.00.

4.) Bad ice maker solenoid valve. In the back lower right hand corner you have a dual solenoid valve. The smaller diameter tubing is your ice maker.

25604602-imv3tze4snahc4os1l3biiwf-2-5.jpg Substitution: 2188542 Cost: $67.00
Check the solenoid valve: Unplug the refrigerator. Disconnect the contacts on the green solenoid. Set you multi-meter to the lowest Ohms. You should get a reading across the two contacts of '0' if the solenoid is good.

Water not dispensing, but icemaker is working

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

The 2 most probably suspects are the micro-switch at the dispenser and the inlet water valve in the bottom rear of the unit.

Here is a manual that will help you:
http://adcxns1.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/8527f904cc8ea8cd85256b5800672333/$FILE/4322658A.pdf

See page 23 for accessing the micro-switch

See this link for water function: (Bottom of the page l;ast step)

Image of inlet water valve in the bottom rear of your unit.

These solenoids must have continuity across the terminals.
If you have continuity you can try to reverse the 2 power connectors on them and press the water function in the door. Mind you if you get water in the icemaker by pressing the water dispenser actuator the micro-switch is good and the solenoid is bad. Just make sure to re-connect the wiring correctly on the 2 solenoids. Additionally use a rag to remove the excess water from the ice-maker.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Water is not getting to my icemaker...I swapped the solenoids and pressed water dispenser on door and now i get water to icemaker...not sure what that is telling me is bad

You swapped the solenoid's wires. Switch the wires back.
It means the ice detect lever is up or broken on the ice maker.
See the article on ice makers at How stuff works.com

I have a kenmore refrigerator that the icemaker wont make ice. i have swapped the icemaker out with a new one and i have checked the vavle in the back by swapping sides with the water dispencer and it...

wait, you say you swapped the sides of the water valve? so am i to understand that you took the water line that went to the icemaker fill tube, took that out of the valve, and placed it into the solenoid for the water dispenser? that wont tell you if your ICEMAKER solenoid is bad, it only proves that your water dispenser solenoid is good.

if i had to guess, you have a bad dual water valve

Whirlpool Side By Side not making Ice, but water dispenser works

I just resolved an issue with my kenmore elite side by side refrigerator icemaker (model 106).
It was expensive because I took the long road to fixing the unit myself.

My problem: No water going up to the freezer water dispenser into the icemaker but the water in front of the door working just fine.

-first thing i tried was the simplest. The Internet is clogged with this miracle fix of using a hair dryer to melt the frozen water line going to the dispenser output. This is highly unlikely for our model since the water line is protected within the refrigerator frame.

-2nd thing I replaced my water filter (thinking that there wasn't enough water pressure to trigger the solenoid valve. $40, and still no luck.

-3rd thing was I tested for voltage going to the solenoid. No voltage going to solenoid, so I wasted $30 for a new solenoid.....still no water.

-4th thing was I ordered a new IR sensor and receiver (since the reciever end is where the relay that sends the voltage to the solenoid to turn on and allow water to go up to the dispenser).
My IR sender and receiver appeared to be working flakey.
Installed, still no water. $58 BUCKS ON EBAY (EVERYWHERE ELSE $100+)

-I finally removed the freezer front little white door, I TURNED OFF THE FREEZER SWITCH SO NO VOLTAGE WAS PRESENT, removed the release latch underneath the freezer unit and disconnected, and removed the freezer unit to inspect it further.
When I removed the protective white cover that covers the mechanical wheel, I had a few parts come flying out of it. Turns out that the wheel accessories were damaged. THERE ARE NO REPAIRABLE PARTS ON THE FREEZER UNIT. I FOUND ONE ON EBAY FOR $39 BUCKS + $9 SHIPPING! $48 BUCKS, SWAPPED THE HARNESS AND BOTTOM COVER, AND IN 20 MINUTES, I WAS BACK IN BUSINESS. STARTED MAKING ICE IN ABOUT A HALF HOUR!!!!!

when in doubt, replace the freezer unit for $48 bucks! 7 out of 10 times it will fix your problems. All techs replace the IR set at the same time too which will set you back another $58 bucks.
Good luck! ;)

I have a kenmore 106.52603100 side by side refridgerator. A few days ago we found water in front of the unit on the floor, it appeared to have come from the ice maker and it is now not working, no water is...

First thing to check is if the water inlet tube is blocked with ice or not. Often this is the case and people have their icemakers replaced with no luck. It the tube is not frozen with ice, then check the arm that turns your icemaker on and off. this should be in the down position. There may be a reset button on the front of the icemaker.
There is one solenoid that control water to the icemaker and a different one that supplies water to the dispenser. Often the Ice solenoid will quit. If you are good with an electronics meter, you can test the resistance across each solenoid....they should each measure the same. If one reads open or much less then the water supply valve is bad.
