Question about Mitsubishi WS-65711 65" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Can not change "Device" input, no sound control,no remote control

Have a Mitsubushi WS-65711 HDTV rear projection unit that the remote does not operate the TV at all, but it does operate the DVD player OK. The manual front panel buttons do not control anything, except to turn on/off. Can not change "Device Input" from DVD to Sat and have the selection Hold, always goes back to DVD intput. Playing a DVD works just fine except I have no sound control. If you try to change the sound, picture goes black then comes back on. Sometimes the sound viewer bar will stay on the screen, then eventually (a long time) will go away. I have hooked up the DirecTV receiver to the DVD input to watch TV, unplugged the audio cables from the DVD input to TV, now using my surround sound unit to be able to listen to audio and control volumne, but have no 1080i input this way, only 480i. This unit is turned off and totally unplugged for about 5 months over the winter time as we go to AZ, unit is located in TN. Normally, in the years past, I just plug everything back in, fire it up and go. Not this year :-{ I have called "MIT" tech support, walked thru their "support", no result. Have tried the "reset" button on TV, did the reset on the remote with Tech Support, no change. Have talked with several area TV guys locally, no one knows what to try next, though no one has actually came to our house

This unit is fixed.......here is what I did.

Remove the front trim plate below the manual switches, may have to remove the speaker covers to access this area, remove the switch mounting plate 3 screws, turn switches over and unplug the little white electrical connection for the switches. TV should work perfect with the remote now. Not sure what is wrong with the switches just yet, but suspect a resistor problem.

I unplugged the manual switch electrical connection. Everything works just fine with the remote.
Not sure what is wrong with the switches just yet, but suspect a resistor problem. I have checked all voltages and have 5.04 v feeding the switch assembly on what I feel are the correct circuits
(5v, ksco, ksc1, man/reset). I have no voltage on the ground circuit with the board plugged in, so the ground circuit should be ok. I have tested all switches with ohmmeter, all switches work. I suspect a resistor problem as I have one with no voltage drop and one resistor with no voltage pass-thru. Would need a wiring schematic with values to pinpoint better.

SOURCE: Won't work in 480i or 1080i mode

I think Bluenadas is right that it's the digital board. To be sure, I would suggest opening it up and looking for any bad capacitors. Those are small round things sticking out of the board. If they are bulging or leaking anywhere, that's your culprit. Replace the board they are on and you should be fine. You can purchase boards for this here: http://tigerdirect.partsearch.com/GetModel.aspx?MfgName=Samsung&BrandName=Samsung&ModelNumber=HCP4752W&page=3 However, unless there is something visually obvious, like the bad capacitors, it's going to be difficult to be 100% certain that the digital board is to blame without replacing it.

SOURCE: TV only formats at 480i

Check in your instruction manual to see if the set can actually work in 1080i. Most of the sets going back about 4 to 6 years ago were not capable of working in 1080i.
The signal coming to your Sat box may be in 1080i, but your Sat box has to be able to output 1080i. This can be quickly verified by calling the support for your service and giving them the model number of their Sat box.

Would you like to bypass, defeat or reset your Mitsubishi 65711 HDTV Parental V-Chip parental lock? Have you forgotten your V-Chip passcode or password?

If you forget your V-Chip passcode, you can view the locked TV without entering your password.

When your passcode is requested, press the number 9 and the QV button on the original TV remote control at the same time. This process temporarily unlocks your TV.

When you enter the V-Chip Lock menu, pressing the number 9 and the QV button on the original TV remote control at the same time will delete your old password and prompt you to enter a new passcode. Pressing HOME at this time will cancel the entire passcode.

I hope that helps.
