I removed the face plate and opened it to see I could see a problem, cleaned the contacts with methylhydrate, and unhooked the battery with the deck installed. Still does not work! I'm wondering if this would be a problem with the face plate or with the deck? Any help would be appreciated.
The problem is most likely in the detachable face. You could purchase a new one but it would cost about $135. Might be better just to buy a new radio. You can check for the part at http://www.pacparts.com/ .
Testimonial: "Thank you Tesla, You are probably right! I've ordered a used face plate from Ebay that came to $30.00 total with shipping to Canada. I always had a problem with the select button not working right and I pushed really hard on it quite a few times, to get it to work. Most likely I wore it out. In the future if I have the same problem I'll use the remote instead."
SOURCE: buttons do not work on face plate but CD and volume dial do
the problem your having is from the buttons wearing out over time and the only way to fix the problem is to replace the face plate or the whole radio.

you simply have a speaker shorting in your car. Either an old speaker with a bad voice coil (short) or a speaker who's contact(s) are touching metal. This type of short or grounding will cause the internal audio amplifier to shut off to protect the radio's output circuit. To diagnose which speaker is the culprit, you'll need to disconnect all speaker leads from the radio and one by one re-connect them until the output shuts down again. The safe way to check is with a voltmeter. If you connect one side of your voltmeter to ground and test each speaker wire lead for continuity, you'll hear an audible "beep" whe you find the grounded wire/contact. A professional car audio shop can diagnose this for you if you're still having difficulty. Hope this information was helpful.

Usually answered in minutes!
I forgot to mention - CD can be changed and none of the remote functions work. At this time no speakers or rca plugs are hooked up.
Thank you Tesla,
Anytime I can be of assistance.
