Try flashing the Bios, if this does not work you may have a processor problem or a problem with the operations of the northbridge or southbridge not functioning correctly causing the freeze problem. The only repair for this type of problem is to replace the motherboard. If the computer is over three or four years old this may be the situation. You should check the condition of all the processors before giving up on the board.Try removing the heatsinks and reapplying the thermal paste. Make sure to clean all dust and debris form the processors. Make sure all the heatsinks are making good contact with their processors. Be sure to clean all dust and debris form the inside of the case and under the motherboard. Check all the screws and standoffs, Just or make sure you are not having shorting problems between the motherboard and case. Hope this helps you with your problem.

Have you done a major repair on this unit that might not be recognised as original equipment, when the unit was registered with Micro- Soft. Do you have the original product key. Have you been asked to insert the key to continue the set-up? The unit is now product protected by windows and that may be the reason you are having issues with this installation. You can go on the micro- soft website and check the frequently asked questions and troubleshooting sections to see if this or a similar problem has been listed and answered. You may have to call Micro-Soft, to get technical help if no other answers can be found. You can also try slip streaming a xp cd and see if you can get it to work with the product key. Try checking the Xp websites for information on this problem and possible solutions. Hope this helps you with your problem.

It looks like you'll have to either return it or perform a default factory recovery. These instructions are from their site but proceed knowing that this will erase any data that is stored on the primary partition (meaning if you have anything on it, it's gone...). Esentially it resets it to a point as if you just picked it up in the store (which you did.. :( )

    5. From the on-screen options, choose a backup.
    6. Click OK and the installation will begin.
    7. Change the disc as necessary when prompted.

If you do not have a recovery disk:

I have a emachine desktop W3115. It lost the network adapter and does not recognize the internet. I bought a OPERATING SYSTEM DISC Dual Core Windows XP Media Center Edition but that did not fix the network...

If you still have the original eMachine software as your desktop, go to Start > system Recovery > Create my Drivers and Application CD disk.

This will create a CD that will contaon all the drivers for your eMachine.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

I had to use my system recovery disc on my EMachine

When you used system recovery it is possible that some stuff got missed by pc. Nothing you did since i have seen it many times. You might wanna try reloading windows from scratch but be aware you will loose all the data of off it. This might be only way.while in set up for windows install make sure you delete old partition and then install new fresh copy of windows. You will need you OS XP disk for this. It is very easy to do so just follow the prompts and when it tells you do you wanna install new copy of windows so do and it will give you option to delete old partition and do a format on it. Once this is done just do regular install.Hope this helps.

When using the restore discs on my emachine w4682, restore freeze

In that case unfortunately, you are probably going to have to get a Windows DVD. Set the laptop to boot off DVD, and reformat and do a complete reinstall.

How do I create a factory default recovery disc where do I find the area at

Hello,

Not knowing the age and model of your emachine I will give you a few choices.

If it's an older series like the picture above you should be able to go into the start menu, all programs and then either PC Help and Tools or Emachine-Recovery manager. Then select Recovery Disk Creator.

If it's a newer model, Emachines and Gateway were bought out by Acer over a year ago and now use the Acer style recovery. Select Star, All Programs, then Emachine Recovery Manager. Load the Disk Creator selecting Factory Default disks first then selecting Application and Driver Disk.

One note, if it's an older model you will only be able to create the application and driver disk. It would have came factory with a base windows install disk. If you have lost this disk, you can reinstall using any standard OEM disk for the correct version of windows and using the windows license attached to the computer, but you will need the application and drivers disk to install your devices and programs.

If it's and older model and you can't find the disk, you can order a replacement set by contacting Emachines support, but there will be a cost invloved.

How do I factory restore an Emachine w3609?

Hi there.
If there is no option to press F11 as the computer starts then you are going to have to purchase a recovery disk for that machine or purchase a Windows installation disk to fully reset it to factory
