Whirlpool SD20 Freezer Intermittent Temperature Malfunction with Alarm Alert

By Yawl on Oct 16, 2007

" "

We have a Whirlpool SD20 RSB33 Side by Side

The freezer side is now periodically malfunctioning; unit 3 years old. The fridge side appears to be working fine. The freezer alarm sounds and when we press the OK button the alarm stops. However the freezer temperature does not return,

When we unplug the unit for an hour or so and then re-connect, the freezer returns to the desired temperature within approximately 15 minutes.

The unit works fine for about 12 -24 hours and then the same thing happens. This cycle has now been going on for a week.

We have checked the seals, verticality of the unit, thoroughly vacuumed the lower sections front and back (first removing the grill covers).

Any suggestions?

I have just bought a graded Whirlpool Frbb2vaf20 American Fridge freezer & are having problems with the freezer. It doesn't seem to want to freeze. We put it on the fast freeze & it then flashes -- & it then states the temperate & about 1/2 hour later the alarm beeps & it flashes --. it doesn't freeze anything, however it does produce the ice cubes. We have had this problem since we purchased it 2 days ago. -   Mandiz2392

The display alarmed. It is now acting as first power up waiting to get to temp. No freezer temp displayed just two flashing dashes [ -- ]. The sense sign is sometimes on. It seems to be keeping cold but not as cold as it should be. I'm ore than happy to replace boards etc but need some advice.
I did take off internal panel, defrost etc and it was ok for two weeks or so, but now same problem is back.-   Guest

Same problem. I have read it's down to faulty capacitors on the mainboard but I need advice on how to swap these out.
