Re: d200

Do you mean that you turned off auto focus on the shutter button? The manual will tell you where to find the appropriate custom setting. It's Menu > custom setting menu > a Autofocus > a6 AF activation.

Hope this helps.

I shoot RAW/basic jpg. I review them there is a contrast differen

This is normal. Bear in mind that the JPEG file has all the image processing done, while the RAW is just the raw data. Depending on your image settings (contrast, saturation, sharpening, etc) you may see some differences.

D200 focussing brackets in viewfinder flicker and jump around

I had something similar - it could well have to do with which AF mode you've got selected. Look in the menu.

Very soft focus on D200

Hi Amanda, welcome to FixYa.

Try this to fix your focusing issue. It's a custom AF setting.
Press the Menu and select the pencil icon. Then you'll see Custom Setting Menu on the LCD display. Click down to Autofocus and then click to the right.
There are 3 choices here: FPS Rate, FPS Rate + AF, and Focus.
Set it to Focus.
FPS Rate is the default setting, the camera will take 5 frames per second whether it's in focus or not.
FPS Rate+ AF forces it to slow down hoping to get more frames in focus.
Focus sets the camera to fire only when in perfect focus. It slows you down some, but it will save you from deleting all the blurry ones.

Try this and let me know if it works for you with a comment.

Ken Rockwell has alot of tips and tricks (including the one I just gave you) in a pdf telling all about your camera. You can read it here.

80~200 not focusing on my D200

If lens has aperture ring, set to min aperture before mounting (f22 etc)
With heavier lenses it is not so easy to tell when lens clicks in all the way to mount, Lens wont autofocus if not clicked in to mount just so. Also both camera and lens should be set to AF.

Nikon D200 with Sigma 18-200 DC AF D lens

Yes, please turn off the camera when changing lens, make sure on the lens is on its full aperture if you are doing auto. if doest not work to make is test turn the camera on the manual mode and the lens too.
If your lens is new there should not be any problem, if you bought the lens used make sure all the points are clear not rusted. some time when lens fall of it breaks its points inside.
