Black blob on screen of new dell inspiron mini 9 netbook ?

    hi friend,

your analysis is spot on (excuse the pun). the problem is that the black blob occured after 2 months and the store operates a 28 day return policy for defects. do you know what the warranty is in relation to a cracked screen, because i didn't do anything to the screen to cause it to crack, it just appeared there mysteriosly one morning when i switched on the netbook. could the fault have been on the screen before i purchased it. the only unusual thing i did was that on the previous day i had the netbook switched on for about 12 hours, and the heat generated my have caused the screen to crack if there was a defect in it. Does this sound plausible, as i plan to bring the store to court if i get nowhere with them.

    John with the blob.

You my friend have a brokem lcd screen. meaning there is a crack in the screen allowing liquid to leak out into a massive blob. Funny thing is the rest of the screen can appear fine in some cases. but take it to a local repair shop and have them order and replace the screen for you. Or better yet, if you just took it out of the box, take it back to the store, and exchange it.

The inspiron 1012 does not seem to have an inverter. Is this true and if so where is it? The screen backlight is not working

Based on the instructions for installing a new screen here:
http://www.batterystyle.com/dell-inspiron-1012-screen-p-235410.html
There is an inverter. It's usually hiding under the plastic bezel around the front of the screen.

My inspiron 1018 won't boot. i need to reinstall or repair my software. it does not have a cd drive. please advice action.

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 series of netbooks come with recovery software that can restore your netbook's original factory settings. Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbooks with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 can be recovered to the factory settings using a recovery partition on the hard drive.
Windows Vista or 7
Turn on or restart your Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook. Press the "F8" key repeatedly when the "Dell" logo appears on the screen to be redirected to the "Advanced Boot Options" menu.
Highlight "Repair Your Computer," and then press "Enter."
Highlight the language layout you want to use for your keyboard and click "Next." Enter your username and password if prompted. Click "OK."
Click "Dell Factory Image Restore," and then click "Next." The recovery software on some Dell Mini systems may require you to click "Dell Factory Tools" followed by "Dell Factory Image Restore" and "Next."
Click "Next" if you understand the netbook will be restored to its original factory settings. The recovery process will begin.
Click "Finish" when a message appears saying the recovery is complete. The netbook will restart and boot up to the Windows Vista or Windows 7 set-up screen, where you can begin personalizing your netbook.

Windows XP Recovery
Turn on the computer. Press the "Ctrl" and "F11" keys at the same time while the computer is booting up to access the recovery software.
Click "Restore."
Click "Confirm" to begin the recovery process, which shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes.
Click "Finish" to restart the computer and finalize the installation. Click "Yes" to restart the netbook again. The computer will boot up to the Windows XP setup screen

7 beep error message for dell inspiron mini 1018

For the Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 Netbook, 7 beeps indicates bad memory (system RAM). The memory will need to be replaced.
The RAM can be replaced using a small Phillips screwdriver and removing the back-plate on the bottom of the laptop. When you see the memory (sticks around 3 inches long), pull those out and put new ones in. Make sure it's the correct DDR2 memory.
Good luck!

I have a black screen trouble with my Inspiron mini 1012. I see an image but it's really dark. I had it there's one month and nothing special happened.

Sounds like the BackLight on the monitor has failed. The only way to fix this is to replace the monitor itself. It might be more cost effective to purchase a new computer.

My dell inspiron won't change backgrounds.

If you have Windows 7 Starter for netbooks, you cannot easily change the desktop wallpaper. You have to buy the full version of Windows 7 which will run just fine on your netbook. This is M$ way of making money.
