We had a GE that did the same thing about a week ago. Tech told us the motherboard was shot and had to be replaced.$350.00 to repair a 5 year old frig. He said what happens is the control board stops telling the freezer to defrost and the coils freeze up which is common in GE bottom freezers. We defrosted the ice build up and it worked fine (until the next time). We sent it to the dump and bought a top freezer Kenmore.

I had the same problem with a brand new GE Profile French-door refrigerator -- it was 2 months old when this happened. The repairman told me over the phone to unplug it for a few hours because sometimes it freezes up & the air can't flow to the refrigerator portion so the freezer works but the top isn't cold. I did this & it did the trick!! Otherwise I was told that it was probably a circuit board too...

My Freezer leaks into fridge, what can I do?

now if the refrigerator is leaking cold air from the freezer, that is normal, there should be a vent, or control handle near or inside the frigerator on the freezer side of the refigerator, you can open or close so you control how cold you want your food to be cold

My Maytag MFF2558VEM Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator doesn't keep cool

What you should be looking for is a blocked air flow. The fan in the freezer will push air up to the fridge and cool it off. Look for a dead fan motor in the freezer or a blocked air vent Good luck

Refigerator is not cooling. Freezer is working

You didn't provide a model number, so it's not easy. In most of modern refrigerators, the fridge side draws cold air from the freezer. Look for obstructions of the air vents.

FREEZER FREEZERS BUT THE REFIGERATOR WONT GET COLD

Hi,

Check the air return on the bottom left wall of the refrigerator side. Check for cold air flow at the top of the refrigerator when the compressor is running. If you feel no air flow, open the freezer door and see if you detect significantly more air flow after opening the freezer door. This could indicate a return air flow restriction and make sure that there no blocking of air vent at the top of refrigerator section that supplies the cold air from the freezer.Check the door seal gasket on the refrigerator for leaks.
If the vents and air flow paths in the refrigerator are proper, then check the back wall of the freezer for excessive frost. A defrost system problem could be preventing the refrigerator from cooling properly. If you do see excessive frost on the evaporator in the freezer, you may be able to restore proper cooling in the refrigerator by storing your food in an ice chest and then shutting off the refrigerator/freezer and letting the unit completely defrost for about 24 hours. Leave the doors open for air circulation. After the frost on the evaporator has defrosted, plug the unit back in and see if the refrigerator and freezer will cool properly.
If there is still same problem then you need to replace evaporator fan.

Hope this helps.

Freezer works fine but the refigerator does not get cool

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

Amana SCD25tw side by side. Ice cream very soft, freezer blows semi cold air NOT ice cold. refigerator side seemes ok. I checked coil and it is NOT icy.

If the coil is not iced up then it is not a defrost problem but rather if the coils are not completely cold all over then the compressor is failing or the refrigerant has leaked out.

Freezer ok, but refigerator is warm

first check to see if the controls have been changed,
one of the dials control overall cooling (freeser) and the other controls a damper that allows cold air from the freeser to travel to the refrigerator.
the other solution could be that there is something in the freeser, food or ice blocking the vent.
one other possibility is that the damper is stuck or frozen still.
if your freezer is ok, it is not a serious problem

The refrigerator is not getting or staying cold enough. the freezer seems to working ok

Check the vent at the top of the shared refrigerator wall for cold air from the freezer. If not, then you can either replace the motorized flap inside the vent or prop the flap open with a stick or something. The manual solution won't harm anything. The motorized flap is an over-engineered solution designed to create service calls. :<)

Freezer is not freezing properly and the refigerator is not cold

You have a defrost problem. The fridge gets cold air from freezer, if ice blocking from no defrost, no fridge temperature.
