Question about Kenmore Refrigerators
I have a Kenmore Mod#72864100 refrigerator with freezer on top. Freezer stays cold but refrigerator compartment will not get cold. Compressor is running, fan is running. Turned unit off and took back panel off to see if coils were iced up. They were not. Coils get cold with light frost evenly across them so I don't think it's a compressor issue. Thought maybe the defrost timer was bad and put a new one in. That didn't work. Got any ideas ?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

If the compressor starts and runs for a few seconds it could be the relay. Or it could be the compressor itself has failed. When a compressor starts and runs for a short period it is possible that the relay contacts are arced together which would have both the start and run winding in the motor engaged at the same time for more than 3 seconds. This would result in the compressor tripping out on the thermal overload. It depends on what type of relay your compressor has. If it is a thermal relay, unplugging the refrigerator for about 15 minutes would allow the relay to cool off and reset.

SOURCE: GE frost-free refrigerator
well you need to know when it was manufacture if it lands under the 5 years seal system warranty then it can be fix for free. on the other hand be sure that compressor is running because if it is not it could be a relay and that is a cheap fix

The compressor should be OK this time because you caught it in time. But if the condenser fan stops you need to consider replacing the fan. I have had refrigerators do fine until the fan motor warms up and you are away, it stops. Don't think you should use the refrigerator until the fan is fixed. Sea Breeze

Hi, fan may have stuck, but you could have a defrost problem, check defrost heater, thermodisc(defrost thermostat) and defrost timer. or excessive moisture, if your days are hot, or if you put hot foods in ref. could result in excessive ice build up. you can manually defrost it, by unpluging ref. for couple of hrs, until all ice melted. then restart. you make get excessive water on floor. be prepared.
