hello experts, i have an acer 4741 z laptop. MY cd drive reads a few pre recorded cds but not all....in my device manager under cd/dvd-rom drives it shows HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT30N is there a driver i need to install or a patch or???/ kind regards anonymous
-it is possible that you the optical drive is loose. That can be resolved by re-seating the drive itself. -first, shut the laptop down, unplug the AC adapter if it is plugged-in then remove thte battery pack of the laptop. -you need some small philips head screw driver to unscrew just one screw that holds the optical drive located at the bottom of the laptop. You may need to consult the user's manual of the laptop.
Which do you have CD are not DVDs but DVDs are CDs. On the front of the CD or DVD player it should say which it is. I believe that the CD driver is already contained within the windows OS software? As far as DVD I have always gotten the software with it, usually NERO .
I see neither any CD or DVD drivers listed on your support web page.

You need to re-install The Drivers ( software to make the Device Work ) I,d suggest visiting Acers Driver Site. typing in the model number of your laptop. and searching for a Suitable Driver for CD/DVD Rom.
Operating system depending, you can right click on the device and try un-installing it. reboot the computer. and you should get a message new devive found. and give you the option to re-install the driver for it.
