Open the bonnet. Use a 10mm socket to remove the bolt holding the water bottle to the shell of the car. Disconnect the 2 eletrical connections to the water bottle. The water bottle will now pull out. Remove the little pump by pulling it up from its housing in the water bottle. You will now see a little black, rubber 'thing'. Remove this and you will have the filter. Thoroughly wash this and remove and of the grime. Take a hose and rinse the water bottle itself thoroughly, romoveing any dirt or cleaner fluid. Reverse the process (put it all back together). This will sort it out.
The problem is using viscose based cleaner fluids. BMW will charge you £120.00 + VAT to resolve this problem. I did it last night in 10 minutes for Zero pounds sterling. Then use an ethanol based cleaner fluid (Lidl £1.49 for a litre, window spray cleaner). BMW will charge you £15.00 + vat for 500 ml.
I am not mechanically minded, but this job was a piece of ****. Good luck!

2005 Chrysler Pacifica Touring front n back wipers work but washing fluid doesn't

It is apparent you used city tap water in the windshield wiper fluid reservoir. You not supposed to as the minerals that seal the pipes will cause the passageways inside the nozzles to clog up. They are three techniques to restore function: 1) use a long pin or sewing needle that will easily fit into the holes on the nozzle and push in to remove the minerals... exercise the windscreen cleaning pump to flush out the minerals and it may work for you. 2) remove the nozzles... this usually means removing the wiper arms and the grill panel under the windscreen to access them. Disconnect and soak them overnight in white vinegar. This will dissolve the moneral deposits. Flush with water thoroughly to ensure water will flow through them before reinstalling. 3) since you already have the access panel off, and the nozzles are still clogged, buy replacement nozzles and replace them. Don't use city tap water any more or it you do, add plenty of windscreen washer cleaner... it is treated to help prevent mineral build-up. (Do check the T connector for the nozzles to assure a line hasn't popped off first.) Replacement T connector and new wiper hose is available at most large chain auto parts stores.

Windscreen washer not working

Most likely the pump (motor) is gone and needs replacement. However, it is worth checking that fuse allocated to windscreen washer is intact. Furthermore, you may also need to check the wiring for flow of current at lever end (handle on the steering wheel) and wires connecting to pump on the water reservoir.

Windscreen washers have stopped working but the fuse is ok and the wipers are still working

Check if you have fluid in the washer bottle. Take a fine needle and clear out the nozzles that spray on the screen, try the washer again, you should be able to hear the motor running. If there is no sound, check the motor/pump, it will be located near or in the washer bottle. The wiper and washer normally share the same fuse.

My front windshield wiper pump does not pump washer fluid but the wipers work fine , the back wiper and pump works

First make sure you have water in washer reservoir, with ignition on reds (not started) then get someone to operate washer while bonnet is closed otherwise the wipers (may come on) may damage your bonnet (would also be a good idea to throw some water on your screen before commencing), listen for a buzzing noise, if you can hear that noise than your washer motor is ok, if not - if fitted with fuse check it and if fuse is ok than your motor needs attention. If motor is ok than while someone is operating the washer motor look under the car to see if there is any water leaking, if there is water leaking than the hose going from your washer bottle to your washer nozzles has come off somewhere, visually check this hose, usually small diameter and clear in colour, reconnect or replace it. If there is no water leak and you have full water and motor is working, than your nozzle, usually located on the bonnet or wiper arms are blocked, this mainly happens after polishing the vehicle. There are 2 main ways of cleaning these nozzles, easiest way is to get a fine pin and poke it several times, this will clean it 85% of the time, if it does not work than you need to find the hose that connects to it and pull apart at a join, closer to the nozzle the better, and give it short burst of compressed air, have to be careful not to pop the hose out at the nozzle as some of them are located in really awkard points, hope this helps.

Blocked pump for window wash , no water coming through onto windscreen.can i clear this myself? or does it need to go to garage?.

If the pump runs then the nozzles are blocked. Use a pin or needle to clear the blockage from the nozzle.(Stick it in the little hole pointed at the windscreen.) Be careful not to break the pin off in the nozzle.
See if you are able to pull the pipes off from the underside of the nozzles. Clear the nozzle using the pin. Then point the pipe into the underside of the nozzle and activate the washer in order to rinse the nozzle.

Cant get water through to the back windscreen wiper

Check for a broken wiper washer fluid hose leading to the rear nozzle.

Check that the wiper washer water pump works.

Check to make sure the switch is sending current to the washer pump motor.

Check that the rear nozzle is not clogged.

Volkswagen Golf - no water from rear windscreen wiper

***** whether this is a mechanical or an electrical problem.
Electrical:
Listen when you activate the switch from the wiper stalk if the motor (pump) is working. If it isn't then check your owners manual for the location of the fuse in the fuse box which will have a image of a wiper sweeping. Usually if you don't have electrical control over your wiper the washer is also affected. If the fuse is not blown then you'll have to look for a relay near the fuse box which would have 337, 389 or 192 on the top. When activating the switch you should feel the relay switching the same time with your hand. If it doesn't you might have a frozen or damaged relay and needs to be replaced.

Mechanical:
Once in a while the system gets clogged from the solution the placed in the reservoir. People sometimes mix dish washing liquid thinking it's going to work properly. Usually this is a mix of denatured alcohol and distilled water which softens the rubber of the wiper blades and cleans oily residue from the glass. Use a very thin guitar wire and poke the nozzle opening if there is any build up. If it still doesn't correct it you may have to use an air hose to blow through the line to clear it with build up.

Windscreen wash full, motor runs but little coming out of jets.

This may be because the motor employed for squirting the water is not functioning. Also check if the nozzle spraying the solution is not stuck.Insert a small pin into the nozzle and clean off any dirt stuck in it.Also the position of the nozzle can be adjusted by rotating the pin after insertin the pin into the nozzle. Also Check the pipe inside the reservoir if any dirt is stuck inside.also at times the the pipe connecting to the nozzle just under the bonnet may be loose or unconnected. So check all these.

Front washer doesn't work

Take a tooth pick and clean out the small hole in the spray nozzle. These get clogged from car wax, dirt etc. Do not use anything other than a wooden toothpick to clean the nozzle.
