SOURCE: Removing line feeder from a Ryobi, model 100

You just pull it off. It takes a lot of force. When re-installing the spool, be sure that the line is inserted in the exit hole and the line is wound in the right direction.

Need help reassembling bobbin area.

You didn't state what model you have, and that makes it tougher to help you.

I'm going to take a guess here that the part that fell out is a silver U shaped part located on the right near the bottom of the bobbin basket (holds the case). If that's the case, it's called a "cushion spring" and can just be reinserted by hand. It is part of the assembly that prevents the case from moving while the thread is unspooling from the bobbin during operation.

Question about a bobbin

First you have to determine if the thread under the plate is the bobbin's thread... or just great loops from the upper thread.

Bobbin snarls are caused by the bobbin unspooling in the wrong direction.

Burrs and snags on the carrier.

Upper thread snarls in the bobbin area are "operator error" Typically, upper thread not threaded correctly (foot UP, buttercup)... or neglecting to put the presserfoot down while sewing.

Good luck.

On my Singer 8280, the thread stitches are very loose. I've tried adjusting the tension of the upper and below thread. No change, still loose stitches. Any ideas? I wonder if I broke and...

The most common cause of this is improper threading.

1. Thread the upper thread properly with the presser foot in the UP position.

2. Make sure the bobbin is threading with the thread unspooling in the correct direction.

3. Make sure the needle and thread are suitable for the fabric in your project.

Top thread unravelling

Turn your spool around. You've got the little thread catch on the spool on the side it unspools from. Make sure it's the other direction.

JUKI BOBBIN THREAD WILL NOT FEED

Most machines require that the bobbin in the case unspool in a certain direction its considered common knowledge I guess because it doesn't seem to be written in the text of manuals... but is indicated in the photos. make sure it's unspooling correctly.

Secondly. Please make sure you have the correct needle for your machine. Some machines do not use a 15x1 (most common needle) Let me show you. (see photo below) Clearly the 241x1 won't fit into your machine. BUT the 15x1 will go into the machine that requires the 20x1.... and the result is it won't pick up the bobbin thread.

Start there. Then check your timing.

Top thread not connecting to bottom thread

First check to make sure the needle is correctly and fully inserted and is not bent, dull or otherwise damaged.

Then make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly and unspooling in the proper direction for your machine. (yes it does make a difference)

If these don't work, your machine is likely out of time and will need professional care.

Singer 8280 sewing machine tension won't increase

Make sure your needle and tread match your project. There simply isn't such a thing as a "universal needle." Also try lengthening your stitch. Heavier fabrics typically need a slightly longer stitch. Upon commencing to sew always grasp the 2 threads and slightly pull as you begin your seam.

I assume your garage sale find has a manual. Be sure your bobbin is unspooling in the correct direction. If it didn't come with a manual.. http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/430_8280_es.pdf

Good luck.

After I sew I can pull the bottom stitching right out. What causes this? Help

The problem is most likely thread tension. First try loosening the upper thread tension (numbered wheel on left side of most machines), if this doesn't rectify the problem then check the bobbin case tension. Correct bobbin case tension can be verified by holding the bobbin case with bobbin inserted and thread extended several inches. If you grasp the thread the bobbin case should not descend rapidly (fall) but should unspool slightly when thread is quickly tugged upward. Please refer to attached picture or your owner's manual.azcouture_1.jpg

When sewing, thread knots under fabric sometimes. Other times the stitching is missing.

Hello:

When you have stitch problems try to remember TNT or TTN.

1. Raise your pressure foot and re-thread your top thread. (Thread)
2. Replace your needle or at least check it for being bent. (Needle)
3. Adjust your top tension. (Tension) Get it? TNT.

4. Make sure your bobbin is in correctly. If it is upside down or had the thread unspooling off the correct side.
5. Make sure your needle and your thread are appropriate for your fabric application.

Good luck.
