My keyboard is typing numbers and characters instead of letters!

Hello,

Sounds like you have num lock on. The Num lock key is usually the same as Scrlk but to select the Num lock you have to press and hold Shift then press NumLk/ScrLk. A light should light up to indicate the keypad is on/off.

Regards,
G33k

Some letter key is not working on keyboard???

if any of the key on the keyboard is not working, you can use an alternate for time being. This is regarding ASCII. There are ASCII codes for every character on the keyboard. A - 65,B - 66........... So on a - 97, b - 98...........So on
Use these codes by pressing and holding Alt key on the keyboard. In order to type b character. Press and hold Alt key and type 66 from the numpad at the right side of the keyboard.

Periodically the keyboard gets changed to the "green" keys.

It's possible that the 'ALT GR' ("alternate graphic") key, just to the right of the space-bar, is "stuck" in the "down" position, and thus you get the "alternate" characters.

Make sure you have selected the right keyboard type and language.
Go to control panel, Regional and language options > and select the appropriate language (for e.g: United States (English), click on Languages Tab and select the Keyboard as English (United States) Keyboard, You should be able to get the "#" by pressing Shift and Number "3"

Alternatively you can use the Virtual keyboard by pressing the Windows button (located next to the Ctrl) and "u" , Or you can type "osk" in Start > Run.

What is the fastest way of typing an é? I have been going through start, accessories, system tools, character map, copying, pasting, but there must be a quicker way?

If you are doing this on a laptop then you are stuck. About the only way is to use character map and copy as you have been or to try to program a quick start key to paste it.

The ALT-0233 is meant to be used on a 101 key pc type keyboard and the laptops do not use the same layout. Your only options would be to use a external keyboard instead of the built in one. I've tried a few things such as the built in numpad using function and an external numpad but neither worked for me. Your laptop may be different so it worth trying.

You need to press the NUM Lock key.
The NUM lock key is usually the same key as the ScrLk key but to select the NUM lock you need to press and hold down the Shift key and then press the NumLk/ScrLk key. A LED light will light up to indicate the number keypad is on.

yaa bcoz you have made your Numlock On thats why keyboard gives you these characters. You can see a led 'on' on your keyboard near Num Lock.

To make it off press and hold Fn kye (left side bottom row of the keboard) and press Num Lock kye (Top row right side). It will make your Num Lock on/off.
