Question about NetGear MR314 (MR314NA) Wireless Router

Problem connecting wireless to a Netgear MR314

I have an older netgear mr314, and while I can connect wired...it doesn't seem to transmit wirelessly. The wireless activity light blinks every so often, but my notebook (ACER Aspire 1 running XP sp2) cannot see it. I also have a netgear wrg614 which only transmits at 54mbps, and I was using that just fine with no issues. Can someone help?

Login to router and change the wireless channel on which the router is transmitting wireles signals.

Pretty old router that you have. Ugrade your router and stay tension free with the newer routers as they work fine and have low downtime.

I do not get a login prompt when I enter the address of the netgear mr314 in the address bar of mr browser. Is it using a different port?

I assume you're trying to access the unit with something like http://192.168.1.1 or whatever the default address is. And what happens then? A page-not-found error? Can't connect? The most likely causes for the problem are
  • The wireless adapter (or Ethernet adapter, if you're using that) on your computer is not set to obtain an automatic IP address and is not on the same IP network as the router
  • The router's IP address has been changed from what you are expecting
  • If you can ping the router but not connect to its web interface, your browser may be configured to use a proxy; that should be turned off when connecting directly to the router.

I need to set up my wireless box. it's model mr314. i have a toshiba laptop

netgear routers usually have an IP address of 192.168.0.1 and a password of admin.
connect the router ethernet cable and press the reset button (very small and hidden - may need a darning needle).
In Internet Explorer type 192.168.0.1 and press Enter. See if you are prompted for a password and user name.
You can get a manual from http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/MR314.asp
