Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

Electrical The electrical feed to my range oven heating element (oven heating element) has heated up enough to burn the connector. My assumption is that the range control unit is not working correctly. Any clues.

Whirlpool oven dony heat up to the temperture

You likely have an oven element that is burned out. The elements can be replaced. Determine which element is burned out and put your hand near the element with the door open to see if if is the bottom or top element that is burned out. Then go on the web to an appliance part sales company such as appliance parts.com. Enter your Whirlpool model number and do a search for heating elements.
Order one. When it comes, turn off the power to your oven. (go to your house power panel and turn off the breakers that feed the oven.) Back to the oven. Open the oven door and look at where the element comes out of the oven wall. Undo the two screws, pull the element out through the two holes in the oven wall an inch or two. If you find insulation coming out with the wires, push the insulation back into the hole so you can just see the attaching electrical wires. Find attached to the old heating element a electrical wire connector with wire going back on of sight into the hole in the oven cabinet, one for each element end. Unplug the connector. You may need pliers to wiggle it while pulling off. Reverse the installation. Plug the connectors on to the ends of the new element. Reinstall the two screws that hold the element to the wall. Turn the power back on to your oven. Give it a try. It should work and is the most common reason why your oven would not get up to temperature. Likely one of your two elements is burned out.

The preheat light flashes on my he range and oven does not heat. I have had the sensor checked and its working. What else could it be?

Most likely the heating element is bad. Disconnect the oven from power. You can open the bottom of your oven to expose the heating element and see if there are any signs of burns or melting. If you can, remove the heating element and use a volt/ohm meter to check "continuity" across the element ... it should be a dead short. While performing this inspection, confirm that the wires and connectors leading to the heating element are intact and connected.

Oven not working

it is very likely that the element has failed internally and as such, the only cure is a new element.

Wife put the oven on clean cycle last night. This morning the heating element will not turn off, a one inch section glows orange. Turned oven off, put it back on clean, broil and off again, no change.

You probably just need a new bake element. Many ranges supply 120 volts to one side of the bake element at all times, switching the other side of the 240 voltage to it (and completing a circuit) when it needs to heat. If the element shorts to ground, the 120 volts can heat though a section of the element to the ground. OK, so much for the technical stuff. Turn power off to range. Replace bake element. Re-connect power. If it works, great. If it heat without turning oven "on" now, that would indicate that the electrical contacts in the bake relay on the control board have welded themselves together, necessitating replacing the control board. Let's hope you are not unlucky enough to have had that happen. (sometimes that happens as the result of an element failure)

Element in oven sparked at corner and now will not heat

The heating element burned through -- it needs replacing. Turn off power to oven, remove two screws on heating element mount, pull heating element from wall of oven, remove two screws connecting electric leads to heating element. To install new element, reverse steps. Make sure screws connecting heating element to wires are very tight -- otherwise they will arc.

I have kitchen aid in the counter range, the bottom heat element is bad. The element has burnt and has a 3" piece that has separated. At the same time the oven stopped working the burners stopped working...

The oven element will not affect the top burners, Unless it tripped the breaker at the panel when the element burned it two. Is there power to the stove? The top burners have their own power and control separate.

Electric oven does not heat up enough

I had the same problem before the warranty expired. The heating element had exploded and there was white powder all over the inside of the oven. They replaced the heating element and it works as it should, however, this oven has never baked right. It gets hotter on the right hand side than it does the left and I have to constantly watch whatever I bake. I'm not very happy with this oven.
