Bathroom exhaust fan 16 years old and noisy. How to fix?

Nutone 671 B unit bathroom exhaust fan is about 16 years old. Has been gettng progressively noisier. I have taken grate down and all seems pretty solid without too much play. Is there a way to lubricate motor or bearings? Is there an easy solution, or do I need to repalce motor?

One drop of 30 wt oil at each bearing will quiet the thing for a while, but you will eventually want to replace it. Also consider the whole fan is about the same cost as the motor, and easier to find.

Replace the motor would be your best bet, due to the fact that you will need to get into the old motor and clean it like crazy before you even try to put any lubrication in the motor. It should have a lubrication hole, but those motors are cheap enough to just replace and move on

Old NuTone 9093n Model replacement.?

Hi -- I just spent a couple of days taking out the old assembly, cleaning all the parts (layers of dust coats) and putting the 9093N back in order to fix the noisy fan. The cold air coming back in is from to the heating and I'd guess the heating element is busted. Yes, you can run it in both airflow modes: ceiling air exhaust and hot air blown to the floor. That said, the noise level on mine hasn't gone down. So I'll look for the replacement assembly. Good luck!

How to replace a motor on a nutone model 8663P bathroom exhaust fan

The motor assembly is held in place with tabs and possibly one screw. Remove the light assembly and once you get to the fan itself, unplug it, and push the side of the unit outward to release the tabs. You push the fan assembly up while pushing out on the side. If you look closely you can see the slots where the tabs go. There may or may not be a screw holding it in place. After you release one side, then rotate the fan assembly down and out.

Save yourself the grief and buy a new fan. Either replace the whole unit or take the fan from the new unit and install it in the old fan chassis. It will be a lot less painful than trying to troubleshoot the old unit.

The Fan in my Nutone bathroom light/fan is not working...

It is really easy to change the motor yourself. It is about a 15 minute job. You just need to find your model number and then you can buy the complete motor assembly.

Bathroom Ventilation Fan Motor Failures

I'm guessing that water isn't splashing up on this fan's motor, so the moisture that is causing the rust must be water vapor. The exact same water vapor that the fan is supposed to be removing. I have two suggestions before replacing the entire fan. One is to make sure that the ducting that carries the moist air out of the bathroom (and preferably out of the house altogether) is free of obstructions and that the fan can actually do it's job. Second is to actually run the fan, and run it a lot longer than you probably are right now. If it is running while you are in the shower and then you turn it off after you leave the bathroom, it can't possibly be removing that moisture. I'd invest in a countdown type timer and replace the existing switch with that. Set that thing for 30 or 60 minutes when you get in the shower and let it turn it off automatically.
