Hi!

If you lift up the document feeder where you set your documents you will see a thin piece of glass to the left,clean it with a damp cloth and it will be gone!!

Try this site for your manual. Go to the right side and in the box click on the PDF download. Hi check the following steps
Problems with sending and receiving FAX

Check the TELEPHONE LINE

Make sure that you have plugged the phone cord directly and securely into the wall jack and into the back port of the fax product. The fax port on your product is marked "Line," "To Wall Jack," or with a wall jack symbol.

Check LIU

Make sure the Line Interface Unit (box that the phone cord plugs into) is fully seated into the back of the fax product.

Remove the SPLITTER

Remove any other devices from the line such as splitters, credit card machines, or telephone answering machines.


Can try sending the Fax on Another Line


CHECK WITH DIFFERENT CABLE
Try using a different telephone cord.

You can change the number of rings before the fax machine can pick up. Three is usually a good number. You would have to pickup the phone on the first two rings.

They make devices that do that but everytime I have used them I would end up getting the fax tone when I'm trying to make a voice. The boxes are great at dealing with incomming phone calls from pstn or land line based calls, but if you are getting cell phone calls or voice calls comming in from digital, DSL, or VOIP lines, it has a hard time sensing voice from fax when people are using phones like that. There designed for analog phone line installation but if you're on a DSL they won't work.

1. Make sure your [RINGS TO ANSWER] settings are more than the same settings for your answering machine.
2. If someone tries to make a copy while the phone line is in use, they need to press number 1, as if telling the unit that they want one copy. If not, the unit will think you are trying to receive a fax and will interrupt the communication.

Is your phone line plugged into the proper receptical on the fax? It should be plugged into the LINE slot, not the PHONE slot. The PHONE SLOT IS TO CONNECT A TELEPHONE TO THE FAX. IT IS NOT FOR THE INCOMING PHONE LINE. If your phone connection is correct, try calling your fax machine from a cell phone while you are at the fax machine. Listen on the cell to see if the fax machine picks up the line. If it does not, go into your fax machine's settings, either INITIAL SETUP FAX SETUP, or PHONE SETTINGS. You may have to try several settings to find one that works, depending on your fax machine. Try going to RECEIVE SETUP on your fax machines setup menu. Scroll through the settings, writing each down on paper. Try RING DELAY, RING TIME, NUMBER OF RINGS TO ANSWER , or any other settings relating to how your fax answers the phone line. Try changing each setting, one at a time, and try calling your fax to see if it answers. There may also be settings on your fax to set it up if an answering machine or telephone is on the same line.

Make sure that the unit is hooked to the fax line only. Many people often merge both lines when connecting answering machines and more than one wireless phone. Also make sure that the unit is the FIRST equipment connected from the wall outlet. Finally, enter the program mode and make sure the fax setting is turned to FAX or TEL. The first setting makes the unit answer after the amount of rings programmed, while the other setting is for manual reception only. One final notice: if you are using the phone line for talking and someone hits START for a copy, the unit will assume a fax and iterrupt the communication. To avoid this, press NO. COPIES first before making copies. Even if it is for one copy only.
