Question about Amana 25.8 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Freestanding Refrigerator SRD26VP

1 Answer

Ice cubes melted, but items at the bottom are still cold.

I have a side by side Amana. The ice cubes at the top have melted, but the items at the bottom of the freezer are still cold. So I assume, a fan is not circulating the air, but not sure.

Fan motors commonly burn out due to all the moisture they are subjected to all the time. Some times they last for many many years, and I have seen motors go out on refrigerators that are less than 6 months old. They are not hard to change. It has a hot, neutral, and a ground wire. This will be where the panel in the freezer is vented, and blows the cold air out.Do you have any appliance distributers or repair places in your area?make sure you have the make and model of your fridge when you go there, and order the fan motor. This will save you service charges.

Also they will stop when there is too much Ice build up around the motor and fan blade ,because the freezer is not defrosting properly.Sometimes the drain gets clogged, the element burns out ,or the defrost timer stops working.

Sometimes ice melts in ice maker. Water drips down and refreezes.

There is a heater built into the ice maker bottom to help release ice cubes from the machine. Under normal conditions the heater only come on when the ice maker starts to run and then jambs against the frozen cubes. When it stalls and jambs against the frozen ice cubes, the heater comes on to melt the cubes enough. I think you have a defective ice maker and the heater is coming on to much or at the wrong time, Since your temps go back to normal with the ice maker turned off, I am almost sure thats your problem.

Freezer side not cold enough, similar temperature as Refrigerator side

It could be many things. My first guess would be the defrost. The coil that gets cold in your freezer builds ice on it and the only way to get the ice off is to run a heater near the coil long enough for the ice to melt. All freezers have something built in to defrost and domestic are typically just an electric heater on a timer. When your freezer stops working again, you may want to pull open the panel of your freezer and see if your coil (a heat exchanger that probably looks a lot like your car radiator) is covered in ice. If it is, it could be the timer or the actual heater that is bad.

Melting/refreezing ice in the ice makes

If the ice is the only item that appears to be melting or defrosting. I would believe the most possible issue. The icemaker is leaking intermittantly into the bin and freezing the cubes inplace.

Amana side-by-side fridge freezer only cold at the bottom

yes the evap fan in the frezer should be running when the compressor is running[it may not for a minute or so as it starts up.Amana's are good for the connectors at the evap fan motor comming apart.the connectors are white and will look like its together but when you pull it will come apart.i would always cut the connector out and use a wire nut so wont happen again.if any other questions please email thru FixYa and i will be glad to help. God bless ,tom

I have the same problem. It turned out to be a problem with the doors. When my kids go to get a snack and close the fridge door (read slam the door) the air pressure pops the seal open on the freezer door causing the ice cubes to begin melting. The bottom items stay frozen (warm air rises). It took me a long time to work this out.
Remove the ice maker tray. Remove the ice blob, being careful to put the u-shaped wire ice-level sensing wire thing, in the up position or the system will dump ice and water all over the freezer. Put all back clean and dry and buy a velcro adhesive strip and install it on top of the freezer door to prevent the door from always blowing open.
Hope this helps

On our Amana Side by Side, there is water dripping from the ice-maker bucket. The cubes were melting. It does not appear that anything else below is melting. I emptied the bucket and lifted the arm to stop...

I don't have this particular model, but had a similar problem. Check the flap to the ice chute. If it's not sealing properly it would allow warm air into the freezer and melt the ice.

I had to call for service.
