How do you get to the top bolt of the starter?
With a lot of socket extensions fed from front of vehicle. You have to mix Short, Medium and Long to get the Ratchet into a small space where you can swing it. That is just the start (excuse the pun) of the problem. the starter then has to be fed forward through the spaces forward, disconnecting cables and twisting to get it out. I replaced the brushes and it bench tested fine, but when back, would not crank engine. I had it out 4 more times, checking bushings, solinoid, reduction gear, connections, and even replaced the main cable. No Go. Turned out that when I eventually re-re-checked the Brushes connections (Couldn't be them, They Brand new), I put the meter across the brushes themselves, not just to the back where the lead enters them and found them to have a 1 ohm resistance. Faulty. Ironically they were the "Much Better Quality" at twice the price of the ones I re-replaced them with. Have Fun
