SOURCE: scratch on camera's LDC screen

Hi,
do you mean the plastic cover has become scratched or the screen itself is malfunctioning?

If the screen is malfunctioning return it.

If you have scratched the screens protective cover there is a great product called "displex" (i buy it off ebay) buy it with the special cloth, Its a very fine abrasive that will polish out scratches and blemishes.
It takes some time rubbing the screen to work but it usually comes up a treat (dont press too hard) Iv recovered some absolutly trashed screen covers with it. Once its sorted use a screen protector to keep it good

Best of luck

SOURCE: Cleaned inside of viewfinder, now AF focus lights gone

Then you learn, when everything works fine, dont mess with it! Have a look at the gold pins that rely the body to the lens. Also check that your lens manual switch focus is engaged... Try a friend lens to see if its your cam or the lens...

When using any lens, the view through the viewfinder has small spots like a liquid was sprayed on a optical component. What is this and how can I fix it?

It could be on the mirror, the underside of the focusing screen, or the back of the viewfinder. All three can be inspected visually.

The back of the viewfinder can be cleaned with any window cleaner. Don't spray any directly onto the camera, but rather onto a clean microfiber cloth and then wipe the viewfinder clean.

The mirror and the focusing screen are more delicate. First try a handheld blower (NOT canned compressed air). If that doesn't do it, try a camel-hair brush. Only then resort to wiping it with a clean dry microfiber cloth. Use common sense, and avoid scratching the mirror/focusing screen.

If it's on the inside, the camera will need professional cleaning.

The viewfinder on my Panasonic PV-DV200 needs to be cleaned. I have the instruction manual but I cannot get it to turn the 1/8 turn recommended to remove

Hi, My PV-DV200's viewfinder needed cleaned too. Try, try and try again. The entire viewfinder assembly will turn, but if it's never been removed before, it will be on extremely tight. My viewfinder has a small notch at about 1 'o' clock on top. That notch needs to be turned to about 11 'o' clock. Once there, the viewfinder slips off easily. It will come off much easier from then on.

However, simply cleaning the removed viewfinder may not be enough. You may also need to remove the two small screws on the underside of the piece that's still attached to the camera in order to get inside there and clean that too. I removed the small rectangular glass and cleaned that and behind there as well. I used a Rayban cloth (needs to be lint-free) and some Plexus, along with a dull pencil in order to get everything cleaned all along the sides of each lens.

Just double check and make sure all parts of the viewfinder are clean by slipping everything back into place prior to screwing it all back on. This will save you some time because you will probably not get everything cleaned on your first attempt.

Hope this helps!

I have a Olympus C-750 UltraZoom. I was taking pictures and everything was normal, but then I noticed the viewfinder was blurry. I was walking through a tunnel under a river and I thought the temperature...

Hi Steve, I inform you that the problem only is moisture. Please follow this.
1. Put the camera in sunlight for few hours. After that use it & if you face same problem then
2. You need to visit camera repair shop and they open the camera completely and clean all the inside part of the camera. because you need to clean the moisture inside of lens, viewfinder & sensor too.
So only hope in sunlight. If its solve then fine.

Brown spots appear on the right of prints

I finally fixed it by printing in glossy mode on a thick and rough paper used for manual drawings. A bit of dust came off from under the print head and now it prints clean again.

Spot on my lense and it shows up on my photos.

I doubt it would be a good idea to try to get in there and get rid of the spot yourself.

If it does not affect your photos significantly then leave it be or if you feel you must, have a a professional clean it. ($$$$). Weigh the cost vs. leaving it alone.

Minolta X-370 Spot driving me nuts!

If its inside the viewfinder, then you'll really need to take it in for a repair, but bear in mind, that will require disassembly and that will likely run you $75-$100, which is more than a used X370 goes for on eBay.

One thing I would check is the underside of the focussing screen as maybe it is on there. Remove the lens and then look thru the viewfinder. If you still see the spot, then its in the body and not in the lens.

Look inside at the underside of the prism - thats where the focussing screen is. Do not touch the screen with any cleaning fluid or your finger. instead, grab something fairly stiff but pliable, like the straw on the edge of a dust blower. and gently rub the general area on the screen where the spot might be. Then blow the area with air to clean it all up. Look thru the viewfinder again and see if that got it.

Its pretty rare for dust to get inside the viewfinders unless they had previously been open for a repair, so theres a good chance its stuck to the focussing screen. Don't touch it with solution or your finger though as the screen can be damaged easily.
