Yes it is. The float needle and seat are leaking and need to be replaced. I'm assuming it it a Briggs and Stratton engine. Just replacing the rubber tipped needle usually will not stop the leakage, the pressed-in brass seat also needs to be replaced and pressure tested. This would really need to be done by a shop. Not a hard job, just requires specialized tools to remove and install seat and pressure test..........

I was afraid you'd ask that. lol. What I use, I made, except for the pressure tester and they cost retail around $95 from 'Stens' #705-020 or from Rotary Parts #8338. Both are over priced, imho. Unless you know someone that can get you dealers price on one of those, doing it yourself really wouldn't be economical. If you still want to try it yourself, let me know and I'll try to describe what I use or try to figure out how to post a picture, if that's possible on here. Dwain

Gasoline / oil leaking from crankcase

hello p, the leak is coming from the rear crankcase cover which is located in front of carb, the screws may have loosened up or the pencil lead thin gasket has a crack, remove the air filter cover and carb, the four screws holding the cover on and you will see the gasket, not much of one but it is there,as far as i know i have never had a front seal leak,oh when the carb leaks it seems like the crankcase is leaking,so check it good, hope this helps,

Unless something catastrophic has happen internally, fuel and spark are about all you need. If you are sure of the fuel supply, pull the spark plug lead and let it arc to ground so you can check ignition health. You should have a bright blue spark visible. If you do, then pull the plug and replace it; the insulator may be cracked and robbing some of the high voltage. If it still doesn't start, you may have flooded it and when this happens to me, I make sure no spilled gasoline is present but I then pull the plug and use a charcoal or fireplace lighter and place it in front of the sparkplug hole. It should pop and help exhaust the excess fuel.

I just purchased a troy bilt bronco crt tiller. Put oil and gasoline in. Pulled the cord. It started. Ran maybe 15 or 20 seconds and stopped. When I tried to start it again, the cord would not...

remove the spark plug.  And pull the cord again.  if the carb float is stuck down or you overfilled the oil you could be hydro-locking the engine.  Check.
