Question about RCA VR623HF VHS VCR

Tape loaded but guide assembly did not. Out of timing?

Customer insists did not force tape! But tape loaded and not anything else. I cannot see any tooth damage. Tried to reset cam timing but cannot find or see reference holes or arrows to set timing. Lifted cam off and see no damage. Need tape deck information only. Can you help? Please advise cost of information or help charges before answering.

Thank you

My magnavox ZV457MG9 A loads a vcr tape crooked after a tape was stuck in there and we had to pull it out. any resolution to this?

Sounds like a mechanical issue which wasn't helped by forcing part of the carriage downward (I have seen this a million times and worse) You may also have a timing error in your machine which is causing the shutoff when rewind is selected. The carriage is in the wrong position in relation to the mode switch (for eject/load) and is possibly damaged in some way.

Assuming the damage to the carriage loading assembly is minimal to zero, the whole VCR mechanism will have to be re-timed (carriage re-aligned to the position of the guides and take up arm, etc. so that the entire mech is fully ejected and can load correctly) this can only be done in a service workshop by a qualified technician as it is very time consuming and may involve replacing some broken gears on the carriage (which was probably the reason tapes loaded crookedly in the first place), along with clean up and lubrication of other parts.

The good news is that it is a common thing for these to break (flimsy VHS decks with fragile gears) so it isn't too expensive to correct this but you may be without a unit for a few days while they fix the problem. If the cost of repair is reasonable, roll with it.

Conon zr200 tape loading assembly will close with no tape in but will not close with tape in carriage

The tape transport mechanism cannot fully engage the tape to the head. When a tape is inserted, the tape guides have to pull the tape from the cartridge and send it towards the head. There is a sensor in the carriage that activates the transport to perform its' job. When that sensor is not enable, it will just allow the door to close and the tape guides will remain stationary. Basically, it needs to be taken apart and fixed or realigned.

When i insert a tape into Panasonic AG-DV2700 Mini dv Playerecorder. It closes normally and then it puts the tape back out staight away Thanks Maurice

Dear FixYa customer,

There can be several reasons for the tape spitting back out including, a defective tape, foreign object/lablel in the cassette compartment, unit in timer recording with tab knocked out on tape and then actual mechanical and electrical faults.

I will concentrate on the mechanical and electrical faults here, since you can verify the others.

Electrical, would include the Power supply, and Micro processor circuits.
A weakened power supply due to deterioration of the filter components will kick the tape out if the power supply voltage drops below a certain value. The filter components deteriorate with age and heat, and then put out less voltage.

There are critical timing circuits, and sensors that control the mechanism positioning and send signals to the Micro processor. The tape in sensor, mode switch, and LED are common faults here.

Mechanical faults include the Cassette Loading Assembly, Capstan, and Drum motor. A fault in the casseette housing assembly that won't allow it to load 100%, a Drum or Capstan motor that is sluggish or frozen will send a signal to he CPU to kick the tape back out.

The Power Supply is a common failure.
An experienced technician can verify the power supply voltages and replace the filter components for approximately $25.00 plus labor.

Thank you for using FixYa

My sony Hadycam vision CCDTRV118 the tape is stuck inside camera and can't remove it

Hello. First, do not force anything!! Secondly, make sure the battery is properly charged. Next, in playback mode, try to rewind or fast forward the tape--this causes the recording, audio, etc. heads to retract away from the tape and *might* free it if that is the cause. When you open the outer cover to trigger tape eject, do you hear the tape mechanism motor running? If you don't hear anything or the mechanism is truly jammed, it will require a tech to remove the tape and repair/replace the insert/eject assembly. Send the unit directly to a repair facility unless the warranty is still in effect.---Hope I was of some help.---Rick

I have a broken VHS cassette.

You can remove the 4 or 5 screws at the bottom of the tape, turn the tape over CAREFULLY pull the top off. If the tape pulled out of the end of 1 spool, you have to remove the clip in the tape hub, reinsert the tape and snap the clip back in. Holding the tape door open so as not to catch tape, put top back on and replace screws. Hope this helps.

Will not load tape

Hello yellowwestie,

You may have a bad tape position sensor assembly (LED and photo transistor). It's purpose is to detect where the tape is in the loading process, and if the tape is not in the proper place at the proper time the tape is returned to the cassette and the cassette is ejected. This sounds like what you are talking about. I would suggest getting a schematic and checking the bias voltages (with a multimeter) on the tape position sensor assembly. If the sensor is bad replace it, if it is not check the tape sensor assembly circuitry.

I hope this helps

Thank you,

Sony DSR-45 Error Code C3140

C:31:40 is "FG fault when starting drum." In plain terms, the video head assembly is not producing a feedback signal that tells the control circuitry that the heads are spinning. Most probable cause is a bad drum assembly, but check to make sure the flex cable going to the drum is properly seated.

E2 error

Something might've been broken in the forced tape removal. VCR tape carriage (the cassette unit) assemblies are rather delicate, easily broken, in contrast to the units in early VCRs (from the '80s or early '90s). Use of force in tape removal... can break stuff, or perhaps get the gear timing fouled up. Take the top cover off, look for broken pieces of this assembly. If this assembly has gears on the right side, this obviously means it is gear driven. Timing is set by lining up marks on the gears, in most cases. Setting this might be tricky- service literature will tell you how to set this, and in what mode the marks line up.

Flashing "2" on VCR front panel.

Hi Oshaman. I have dealt with many VCR's and would like to ask you a few questions before diagnostics. How exactly did you get the tape out of the machine ? There are several tape threading gears involved, and if you accidentally made one of them skip a few teeth while forcing the tape deck up the "position" switch will send erroneus signals to the tape threading position switch/ controller. Was the tape rolled around the capstan/pinch roller ? Did you have to force the tape loading tray up to extract the tape ? Feel free to email me. pemere@optonline.net. Happy Holidays.
