The monitor keeps going blank with a message ''no signal'' or ''out of range''.

Probably you are out of the resolution range for this monitor. Try to boot you computer in safe mode (for low resolution) using F8 just before the windows start screen, step down the resolution, restart and try step by step to upgrade the screen resolution.

Hi I get a "signal out of range" message until windows xp starts. This means I can't get into safe mode or see start up messages. Any ideas please?

You see "Signal Out of Range" does not mean you cannot go to Safe mode or see startup messages. It shows up when you dont have a display. The refresh rate of your monitor is a little slow. So when you wana go to safe mode, press the Power button and start pressing F8 option and you will get the safe mode option and you will see startup messages when you will get one. Your computer is perfect. :)

All the best.

Monitor displays Msg. frequency out of range, screen is black

Start your computer and press the F8 when the manufacturer's logo screen is showing. This will bring you to the Windows startup menu. Pick "start in VGA mode" and windows will start up with video settings you monitor can handle. Then you can change your video settings so Windows will start normally with your monitor.

Showing message out of range

Your monitor settings within windows are set too high for the monitor to display... When computer first boots.. be ready and press the F8 key...
Enter safe mode.. Reset the display properties in control panel to 800 by 600 for a start. Setting the resolution too high past the monitors ability will give you that message.. Most monitors are able to display 1024 by 768 just fine.. Out of range.. means the display settings within windows are out of the monitors range of ability to display the screen resolution you have set... Good luck!!
