POP up problem (by 2 users)

By Lizzy - usenet poster

Can someone help me get rid of Pop ups.  When I installed
XP, I cannot get rid of them.  I have removed programs
and cookies but have not been successful.  Any
suggestions?

pop ups are driving me crazy. I have gone to internet options and changed my 'Privacy' settings from '0' to 'Medium' but siomehow, the settings change back to '0' and I find myself continually resetting the settings. I've also tried changing my pop up settings but haven't had much luck. Then I 'Added' some web sites to be 'Blocked' but they just keep coming, constantly.

As with many popup blockers, you have to hold down the Control key if you
want a particular popup.  I have to do that to watch CNN videos which are
popups.

Hi.  My favorite popup killer is AdShield available at
www.adshield.org

But the best popup killer in the world will not help you if your
computer has been hijacked.  Best place to start is by downloading and
using the excellent free spyware remover Spybot available at
http://security.kolla.de/

Here is more information about how malicious sites do this to your
computer and how to get rid of this garbage:

After you finally get your computer cleaned out you can either use my
favorite listed above or try one of these:

Good luck, Acadia.

Please reply in this forum since above email address is no longer
valid, thank you.  Take care and have a happy life.

great utilities. You can customize which windows to close by the title in
the window. and it has some pre-programmed ones. Very small apps. the main
EXE is 77k. check it out

There are several programs available on the web that will rid you of
those pesky things.  My favorite is AdShield.  I'm sorry I can't give
you the URL for it but a Google search will find it I'm sure.

Good luck.

I used to use AdShield, and it's good. The only problem I had with it was I
couldn't control it.  It blocked ALL popups, even ones I needed to see.

I switched to Check-it 86 by SmithMicro (www.smithmicro.com).  It's $20, but
I like the fact that if I want to see a pop-up, I just hold the control key
down before I click on that link.  There are other things like that too.  I
know it's not free, but hey...you get what you pay for.
