If it heats w/ the timer in off position whenever plugged in the the element is shorting to ground, its most likely due to either a broken coil or a cracked insulator. If heating w/ timer set for drying but motor is not running, the heat circuit thru the centrifugal/start switch on the motor is stuck closed.

Why doesn't my Maytag dryer model LDE712 heat. All things related to check have continuity.

Sometimes you have to disconnect elements of the heating system to check continuity ('element's' as in 'parts of').

Can only be 4 things

Element
high limit thermostat
high limit cut out
mainboard/switch

Maytag Neptune Dryer runs for about 10 minutes and then stops. If we hit the start button it will run for another 10 minutes. It heats up fine while it is running. When this started we smelled something...

Check for lint buildup on the "Hi Limit Themostat" located above the heating element. There is a thermostat kit that you can get and replace all three at once. This will make sure your dryer runs safe and up to its required operational limits. The lint buildup may cause the thermostats to get out of the tolerance. Here is a link to the thermostat kit.

Heating element stays on when dryer is off.

I would advise to inspect the high limit thermostat. this device may be defective. this will cause the element to continue to operate when the unit is off as well. If the thermostat is operating correctly, replace the timer.

No heat (replaced heating element and another

It sounds like you replaced the heating element and the small thing you refer to was most likely the thermal fuse. If these are the components that you replaced, and if they are indeed good, the next thing to look at if the dryer is not heating up is the high limit thermostat. It is most likely faulty if the element and thermal fuse are good. Hope this helped and best wishes. Here is a picture of a thermal fuse and high limit thermostat to help you figure out what is what.

No heat from dryer

You have a bad heating element and or a bad high limit switch. Check them for continuity with a volt meter. No continuity, replace the part.

Crosley Dryer Heats then stops

If im thinking right, this dryer has the element in the top left corner.  This unit has two thermostats, one mounted right above the element, and the other in the lower left front mounted on the fan housing.  The one in the front is called the high limit thermostat, which means when it gets to a preset high temp, it cuts off the system until cooling occurs.  The top thermostat, mounted above the element is the operating thermostat.  It probably is one of the two thermostats.  Its a very good idea to replace not only both of the thermostats, but the fuse as well.  The fuse kit (Maytag Part# LA-1053) comes with a thermostat and 2 fuses, be sure to follow he instructions on how to determine the fuse for electric and gas.  The high limit thermostat (Maytag Part# 53-0771) is an easy replacement.  Something is causing the unit to short cycle.  Sometimes you can hot-wire the operating thermostat (use caution, severe caution if doing this, not recommended if you arent sure whats going on).  By doing this (removing the two wires from the thermostat, taping them together), you can watch and see if the element stays on longer, at least until the high limit switch comes on.  This is really not recommended, if the high limit is out, it will not be good.  Just easier to replace them both.

Maytag model

You really need a volt / ohm meter to check for Continuity & VoltsIts well worth the investment... $15.00 bucks give or take a few

I would check to see if you have 220v to back of dryer where the cord mounts to dryer,

If dryer is getting only 1 leg 110 volts instead of the 220 will it not heat.

Check themostates & heater for Continuity... Most models, Now have a.. Hi-limit fuses that need to be checked for Continuity they have to be replaced
