Rca projection p46812bl not bright enough!

I have cleaned the screen and the lenses, and have the black level all the way down as well as the contrast.  Any movie that has a darker scene in it the image is still so dark I cannot see anything. Ambient ligh does not seem to have any affect ie. all the lights in the room on or off, same result.

I would think that the black level and the contrast should be all the way up not down the black level is your brigthness . if lhese are all the way up you might try adjusting the screen controls inside the tv if you know how.

The brightness is very dark. Any nightime scene

Your CRT's getting old. Plus dust on lenses don't help much. You have to open front frill (below screen) and back of the TV. Clean up lenses using dry paper towels, do not wet.
In front of the TV after grill remove center cover and locate "black box" that have 6 potentiometers on it that looks like plastic adjustment screws for philips #2 screwdriver slots. 3 of them should read "Focus" These you don't touch. Another 3 reads "Screen". Put some still image on your screen (like paused DVD movie frame). Carefully add brightness in all 3 colors trying to avoid horizontal lines appearance. If lines show up, just turn it back a little. Try to keep color balance looking at the picture.
This procedure will brighten up image but further reduce CRT's life.

In case that you posted wrong model here and you have DLP Projection TV - just replace the lamp.

I was given a rca p61940 rear projection tv. The

It sounds like a convegence problem due to dust on the lenses. Clean the lenses with qtips and alcohol and then use auto convergence in the menu screen.

Start by taking off the front bottom cover, usually they have screws way at the bottom one on each corner, then uncrew the screen usually there is 3 screws at bottom of screen pull up and out on the screen the screen has small screws in the inside all the way around take them off once you reached screen take it out and split it in half clean it with dry rag then put everything back together exactly the way u took it off before you screw the screen back clean the projectors with dry rag and the mirror with windex or any glass cleaning product.

Can I clean the color bulbs on my 52'' RCA television?

To clean these lenses is easy with a clean soft cotton cloth in a kindly way. BUT wait a minute: To get access to those lenses is the really hard job. something as you want to see the core of an onion but tobe there you have to take a cover at the time. Trust me: Literally. Step by Step, at least 40 screws. the front screen is the last step, and then you can see those lenses. If the tv is working OK and is the only job needed, ask a technician for a regular cleanning and adjustment you can get surprised about the service cost (NOT REALLY HIGH i mean). make sure he cleans the back mirror also.

Cleaning rear projection screen tv

It is very rare to have to clean the mirror. It us upside down so it does not collect dust. It does however collect nicotine if there is a smoker in the house. Some RCA mirrors are not glass and should not be touched. The lenses do get dusty and should be cleaned.

No Video Display

The lamp should be blindingly bright. The light passes through a color LCD and through a series of lenses that will project the image onto a screen. If the light is "very weak", you won't have enough light to project onto the screen. Try using it in a pitch black room really close to the screen. If you can see ANY image being projected, then the unit is fine and all you'll need is the lamp.... usually a rather expensive item.

Picture distorted

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Ccreen quality

There is no yellow tube my freind, only a red, blue, and a green one. If its too bright, have you tried to turn down the black level yet or brightmess, and also the contrast. On these sets you don't need to have the brightness up way high, as the contrast does this. If, when you turn down the brightness, and the picture looks dull, you may need to clean off the mirrors, and or the lens for the picture tubes. If that does not help, there could be a problem in the screen drive circuit or the high voltage block. Good Luck Ps Please do not forget to rate this thread.
