Subject camera worked fine up until two weeks ago. U turn it on and the lens wont retract. Already checked the batteries; it wont respond to any normal commands. Have to take out batteries to get camera to turn off.
Camera is 10 months old, should i just send it back to mfg? If so, where.

check first if battery is ok, maybe your problem is your barrel, if barrel not function properly you need to change motor or barrel allignment. if barrel is ok you have short circuit in your assy pcb main.
It seems like some manufacturer defect in S series of samsung. I am facing the same. EIther u can get it serviced free at samsung care or just give a helping hand to the lens when its retract , push it inside with fine touch and it will come & go smooth.
Just fixed mine, if the lens is out that's the problem we had, it was jammed and not allowing it to switch on, we gently pushed it back in, then switched on, the lens came out a bit then jammed, pushed it in again & kept doing it until it cleared the blockage. Works fine now! Hope it works for yo
Mine got stuck with lens out. The batteries were new so I never imagined it could be the batteries, but they were cheap ones so I recharged a pair of good ones and once I put tried them on it worked just fine again. Conclusion, the "new" cheap batteries had only enough energy to turn it on and then they couldn't give it enough energy to make it work anymore and that's why I couldn't retract the lens or even turn it off properly. So in your case, try using a couple of good and new batteries.
If your lens is open and the camera turns off after those dreaded beeps, I have a fix for your problem. Basically, for this model of camera, the lens first pushes out a bit and then it retracts into the camera. Well, my lens got stuck on the pushout and it prevented the camera from turning on. I used some finger pressure and wiggled the lens a bit. Then I turned it on and it retracted to where is was supposed to be to take pictures. Then I turned it off and it retracted into the camera. Problem solved!
OMG! so i read all these suggestions and nothing worked or i was just confused..tried the tapping thing but didnt work..so i finally just kept twisting the lens and pushing it in and out..it doesnt really move but i was angry and hoping this was doing something..i turn my camera back on a IT WORKIN AGAIN:) im so happy becuz i was so pissed that i had to buy another camera but i suggest trying this method if the table tapping dont work..OH and my lens didnt look crooked at all so if urs look straight and stilling doing stupid beep thing ,,,try this!
