This happened to me a few months ago. I ordered a part from Canon for $35 and fixed it myself. They will sell you a new top cover that will need to be replaced. They do not sell the trigger button. I found the repair very easy with one exception. The electronic band is cumbersome to connect with little space to work. It took me two tries, but I was successful and it saved me at least $100- $150

!. check with Canon or parts availability -some modeles are considered 'disposable' and no parts are available
or they may offer to repair it for you.

Canon power shot A610, will it support sundisk 16GB?

No. The A610 works with MMC and SD cards, 2GB or smaller. It will not work with higher-capacity SDHC cards.

YES HI my cam will not turn on. its a powershot a610 cannon cameria

Things to check first are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Details on what needs to be checked may be seen here. It won't work for every case, but it's worth a try.

Camera switches itself off unless the viewing screen is closed.the camera will still take shots using the viewing lense but will shut off immediately if the screen is opened.

This behavior comes when the camera is confused about whether the flip-screen is snapped into the camera screen out or screen in (for protection). The screen is supposed to turn off automatically when you snap it into the camera-back screen down. But if you flip and twist it in a certain way, the camera gets confused. I'll bet that if you keep your screen out, on the side of the camera, you can take pictures just as well as ever. To fix the problem, flip the screen out with the camera on, then rotate it all the different ways you can which allow you to close it with the face out. One of the orientations will leave the screen on, I believe. At least this procedure is the one I followed on my A610 to fix the same problem.

Canon Powershot A610 won't power-up

My camera stopped working some time later after being dropped.
If you are brave (or desperate), try this... I found it was not too difficult to open the camera up. Take all the screws from the bottom, sides and under the card and usb, and inside the battery compartment. They are all different lengths so keep some record of what goes where. Then I made sure the multiway connector underneath the top was firmly in place. That was all I could see that I could fix myself. And what luck! when I put it back together it worked.
