Question about Lands Phones

2 Answers

I have a Phillips CD 235 Home phone with a base station (model CD 2353S/05 on underside and two additional phones. The base set and one additional phone works ok. The second additional phone and holster appears to be defective. This phone keeps lighting up and emits a broken ringing tone. The re-chargeable batteries then goes flat. I have recharged them and bought new re-chargeable ones but to no avail and the problem remains.I have also switched it off and checked cable as per manual Is this phone repairable or can you buy an additional phone and holster. Thankyou

I appreciate your reply about needing to have the supply checked by a voltmeter . The problem is I am not technically minded and also you do not give advice on the correct voltage or if a replacement can be bought. I think I am wasting my money with your advice ($9.95) and the probable ensuing cost, because the whole 3 phone package only cost £50 (about $70). Probably better throwing the whole lot away and buying a new set. Looks like I have just wasted $9.95

I am not happy with the response. I appreciate I can find out the correct voltage in the UK.

You have ignored my comments about

    1. Me wasting my money!!!

    2. Can you buy replacements and from where?

    3. The fact that I don't want you to take any money in futrure from my account and confirmation of such

    4. For $9.95 I feel I have been cheated by your advice or lack of it.

  • tsgiblin May 16, 2009

In the uk the voltage is 240. I have had mine checked and it is in perfect working order.

Your response still doesn't answer my queries -SEE MY PREVIOUS E MAILS.

    1.Can it be repaired.?

2.Can a new separate phone and holster be purchased ?

    3. Am I best to cut my losses and buy a complete new system?

    4. Can you confirm you will cancel any further payments from my account?

    5. I feel cheated out of my $9.95 for the information given or lack of it.

    6. After this 'e' mail and your response I suggest you delete me from your members list, and also I would not recommend anyone to use your services

Dear Sir,I'm truly sorry that the person or persons that have responded to your previous post has not been able to help you,This site has over 10,000 people available to help with all types of problems, but sometimes a few will try to answer a question that they can't and instead of passing it on to someone who can.You do not pay if you don't receive the help you require,so no charges will be made to you unless you accept the response.

Now with that being said here are the answers

  1. Voltage inside is 3.6v (But this is a board issue not a voltage issue)
  2. Yes you can buy additional handsets and holders(Tesco direct,Ebay,etc..)
  3. It can be repaired (but may not be worth the repair cost)
  4. You won't waste money here,Since you only pay for an accepted response.
I truly hope that this has answered all of the previous concerns and help with the resolution of the original problem as well.

You need to reconnect this phone with the "base". If more than one charger came with this set, only one of them is the base. This would be the one connected to the phone line.

Please place it back in the charger that is the base or home unit.

Hi there, Your new phones will not interact with a base station from another brand of phones. If you want to use one base station, you can buy single phones of the same model and brand and those will interact with the original base station. Your new phones will not connect to the old base station Sorry, Alex

Range out

You don't give much information to go on here; it would have been a great help if you'd added details of the make and model and whether the problem occurs some or all of the time.

Assuming it's a cordless home telephone then your phone is telling you that it cannot communicate with the base station. Typically this will be when you're too far away (out of range, hence "range out"). Too far away simply means that either the phone or base station antennas are not fully extended (not all models have external antennas though), or it can mean that there's too many solid walls/obstructions between the phone and the base station; these kinds of phones can also have problems with certain types of building construction. It can also be if there's interference on the carrier waveband, so try switching the base station and all phones to an alternative band if available. Other causes will be that the phone battery has been recharged to the point that it cannot hold sufficient power any more or that there's a fault with the base station. Any large metal objects close to the base station will also cause a weaker signal than normal.

I hope that I've helped, if so then please rate my answer. if not then please supply additional details and I or another expert will be able to provide a more relevant answer.

I purchase an additional phone and it will not pick up the signal from the base station. Does it need to be programed?

If it is the same phone model, I think you put the new one into the cradle of the base station and it will set itself up.

Initializing

The hand-sets are not registered with the base-station. Reset system by: remove batteries, unplug base station, disconnect batteries in all hand sets. Wait 15 minutes. Reinstall batteries in hand sets. Reinstall batteries in base station, plug base station in. Place each hand set in the base station until it automatically registers (usually immediately, or within 1 minute or so).

If that doesn't fix the problem, if possible, return the system to where you bought it for exchange or refund. If that isn't an option, call Thompson help line. They are not particularly knowledgeable, but will authorize a return to the a repair center. The process is slow...

My experience: The two hand sets that came with my system worked perfectly, but none of the three additional handsets I purchased would register. The three additional handsets I purchased were the last three on the my retailer's shelf, so, retail exchange wasn't an option. I contacted Thompson and they authorized return for repair or replacement. The repair center received my handsets on October 29, 2008. Its now November 27, 2008 and I'm still waiting.

On the hand set:
- menu button - ADVANCED SET - REGISTRATION - base 1
- pin # is 0000 (default)

On the base station and the base station handset - press and hold for at least (3) seconds, at the same time:
- on base - the intercom button
- on base handset - menu button

It's in the manual but you need a magnifying glass to read it.
