Question about Panasonic DMR-EZ47V DVD Recorder/VCR
DMR EZ48V. unit was recording from vcr to dvd. It malfunctioned and ran a U61 self test for recovery. now the unit says the self test didnt work and the drawer opens and says press ok. It then goes back through the self test and the same message is displayed on the screen. I held the on/off switch to reset but it does the same thing. Simon. email is email@example.com

The manual refers to the U61 as being a recovery mode. Have you left it at U61 for a period of time while it tries to recover?
U61 ≥There was a power failure or the AC plug was disconnected while the unit was on. The unit is
carrying out its recovery process. This process restores the unit to normal operation. The unit is not
broken. Wait until the message disappears.
You could always try to force it into standby mode and back out again:
Press [í/I, POWER] on the main unit to switch the unit to standby.
Now press [í/I, POWER] on the main unit again to turn the unit on.
If that doesn't take care of it, everything thing I've found points toward a replacement of components inside the system by a repair service. Hopefully you are still under warranty!

You must manually hold in the on/off button on the machine itself (NOT on the remote) for approximately 30 seconds. This will shut the unit off. Then you can restart it.

If fail unplug and hold power button for a minute or two and turn it on and repeat.
