Can't take new pictures!

When I turn on my camera on in camera or video mode, it says access and the lens goes in and out two times, and then tells me to turn off and on the power.

It just started after taking a picture, and turning the camera off for a minute or so.

The last picture was numbered DSC08261.JPG

Looking at previous pictures is fine

When i take picture, the picture is white n some time become very very bright, but if take video is ok.

this can be usually associated with your white balance in still camera mode.
Check to see your white balance is set correctly or just set it to auto. Also make sure the mode you are in it set. (ie. indoor, outdoor, auto, speed)

You need to shoot in the Manual exposure mode (turn the mode dial to M). You control the shutter speed by turning the command dial on the camera, and the aperture by turning the aperture ring on the lens. You won't get any assistance from the camera's exposure meter, but you can use the playback and especially the histogram to fine-tune the exposure.

Turn camera on, lens goes in and out a few times then tells you to turn off then on again and can't shoot picture

can of cpomkp-ressed air or compressor access is needed to blow around the lens area.
Smack the camera firmly into the palm of your hand a few times, more air , more slaps. keep checking if it is again free by turning on again, eventually this will free the dirt from the mechanism and it will function again. This trick was passed onto me by a sony tech and they chatge $180 to do just that

Camera goes to sleep too there a way to adjust?

To save battery power, the camera automatically goes into sleep mode and the monitor turns off if there is no operation after 3 minutes when the camera is turned on (when the lens cover is open and the monitor is on). No picture is taken even if the shutter button is fully pressed in this mode. Operate the zoom button or other buttons to restore the camera from sleep mode before taking a picture. If the camera is left on for 15 minutes, it automatically turns off (the lens cover closes and the monitor turns off). Press POWER to turn the camera on.

The only functioning modes are the picture viewing & set up modes

Have Sony DSC-P73 with exact problem. Only turns on in SETUP mode and when switches to all other modes camera shuts off usually with lens extended. Have tried new batteries - new memory stick - new everything and nothing helped. I just took out the batteries and attached the AC ADAPTER and all works perfectly now so problem is with either batteries - battery compartment or battery connections. As long as you do not need a "PORTABLE" camera, using AC Adapter solves this problem :)

Your camera has problem in Lens mechanism. If Lens doesn't open properly, camera will not show picture at all. There would be Loading Motor section demaged in Lens mechanism and it needs to be replaced to work camera OK.
Now come to blue screen in playback mode, This model doesn't have internal memory, so you need memory stick/ card to see previously taken pictures.

Hello, there is a problem with the optical unit (lens). Normaly when the camera is in camera mode the lens should go out. In your case it seems that for some reason the lens is stuck. Please contact your nearest Sony dealer. If you want to repair the camera yourself please tell me. I can send some additional info as well. Regards, Arpi
