I am having problems with my tv. i bought the tv 1 year ago and I am already having problems. My problem is when I turn on the TV nothing really happens. You can hear it turn on and the light turns on then within 3 to 5 second it turns itself off. I just want to know what should I do replace the tv or should I have it service? But after 1 or 2 months its again happening. from where this problem is arises.

The regulator is maybe running at more than 127 volts. hook up a variac and run at 100vac and see if the set stays on.
the horizontal output transistor will blow the main fuse and the set will not run at all.
i would send the tv to an authorized philips depot

I have a philips magnavox and had two problems that I recently fixed using kits from www.TvRepairKits.com. I can't say enough about their kits and help. Without them I would have never been able to fix my TV set myself.

The first problem I had was the TV was looking 3D. After doing some homework I found out that this is a convergence problem. I bought a kit, followed the instructions, and to my amazement fixed it myself.

After building my confidence with the 1st repair I decided to get their CRT fluid kit. This kit fixes the dull video, red video, or bright/halo looking video. If you have a magmavox set that is more than 5 years old your tv has this problem already. It happens on every set. As before I bought the kit, followed the instructions, and now my video looks factory new. Once again I wanted to say thanks to the team at Tv Repair Kits for putting together kits that the average joe can use.

maybe your ac cable has a lost contact thats why when you wiggle it it will turn on. just replace your power cable first before you are going to troubleshoot the other problem.

Should I buy this set used or are there many problems with it? TX J

Do not under any circumstances buy this TV unless you are a service technician. The people who are trying to sell it to you probably already had to have it fixed once before and "forgot" to tell you. This TV is the definition of Lemon. Tell them you know the thing is gonna break and you'll give them $100 to take it off their hands. Otherwise be prepared to replace the power supply in a couple months and spend tons of money or man hours trying to get this thing to work.
