In the event in which I fully formatted the harddrive then what?

  • BroKKeN May 16, 2009

(now that you mentioned it i dont think i ever formated in the first place) So if I put the windows disk in, restart, F12, Boot from CD ROM, Full Reformat, I should be good? Is there more...

    SECOND THING.........

I get a parser message when i click on add/remove programs. Google suggests something about 3rd party theme styles and that i should switch back to original (I never changed it in the first place, I just instaled windows)... The XP disk i got is a duplicate aquired from a computer repair store (So im assuming them being techs the have enough knowledge as to not F up something as easy as a cd duplicate) Your Opinion?

i think your boot.ini file have been modified by Heur virus and needs to be replaced by the original one so finally you have to install new windows by booting it from the CMOS setup by pressing del button when computer boots

Keeps shutting down and takes several trys to start again only to shut down later

If the computer is overheating it will shut down to save the hardware from heat damage, the temp is pre set. It may get hot, due to air flow in a minute or and hour. What does the "screen comes up says problem " say? Check the fan and vents for dust and clean, improve air flow around bottom vents and side vents. Perhaps a Laptop Cooler? When the computer shuts down unepectedly, the computer see it as a crash and will load in that option screen. Run a 'Check Disk" on the OS drive buy opening computer in start menu, right click the drive with the OS (C), open properties, Tools, Check now, choose all options, follow instructions, reboot.

Computer shut down

I would start with a RAM check and hard drive test before I did much else. Errors while installing windows would seem to indicate a hardware problem of some kind.

M9700 starts up but shuts down few minutes after vista loads

Sounds like it is a problem with the m9700 overheating. I have just repaired an m9700 with this exact issue and it was resolved by taking the CPU heatblock off, removing the dried/caked-on heat compound, and replacing it with my own (Arctic Silver 5).
Was 91c before, now down to 74c max on load (Measured with coretemp). Random crashing has stopped.

System shuts down after surfing the internet

Regarding the error code, all you need to do is update your driver. You can do this by downloading the most up to date driver from motorola here.

Unfortunately, it seems like this might be two seperate issues.

Sometimes machines, especially laptops but it will happen to desktops as well, will shutdown when they are overheated in an attempt to prevent damage to the physical hardware. Judging by the "after about 15 minutes" comment, I think this might have something to do with it as that 15 minute window would give a non-functioning fan or unventilated laptop enough time to overheat your machine.

If the driver update does not stop the random rebooting and you do not think the machine is hot when it reboots, do this:

right-click My Computer and choose Properties; click the Advanced tab. In Vista, click the Start button, type System, Properties, Advanced, and press Enter. Click Continue if prompted by User Account Control.

In all versions, click the Settings button under 'Startup and Recovery'. Uncheck the Automatically restart box, and click OK twice. The next time the problem occurs, instead of rebooting you will likely see a text screen reporting a system error. Report back with what error it gives you.

Good luck!

Toshiba Satellite shuts down and won't boot up again.

Have you installed any new hardware or loaded any new software lately? If not you might have some corrupt files. Reboot the laptop in safe mode. Just hit F8 a few times. It should give you a menu. Arrow to safe mode and hit enter. After it finishes booting to safe mode, do a system restore. Click Start>click Start>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. Choose a date before a couple of days before you noticed anything happening. Restore will take a few minutes. When it's restored and booted, I want you to do one more thing. Click on start>run>type in cmd and hit ok. This will take you to your command prompt. Type chkdsk /f It will tell you it can't run it right now do wan't to run it the next time you start up? say yes. Close the window. Restart the computer and the check disk program will run and fix your errors.
If this has fixed your problem please rate it as fixed. If nit, just add a comment add I'll be happy to help you out more. Thanks.

M2000 heat causing trouble?

Are the fans clear from dust and debris? this is a major factor, if it keeps freezing you may have partially burnt out the processor or other component.
