Generic problem for all CD and DVD Burners

DVDR 70

I have cleared a number of discs of programs no longer of interest. The discs were wiped clean. Now I cannot get beyond the message " Disc Empty" trying to get the Timer button on the remote control  gets no response. The problem pages at the mag of the manual do not mention this problem and 2 hours of experiment and several searches through the manual have produced no results.

- Thanks for your note but, unfortunately I have only RW discs which I use for audio/video recording. "R's" I use only for storing documents which I need to keep. I think I had the problem on 5 or 6 RW's in an hour or so but, it must be said, they are all 3 or 4 years old and have been used for recording many programs in that time (mainly to record Motor Cycle races, which are usually transmitted at times inconvenient for me to watch.). Ideally, I would like to contact the DVD manufacturer (Philips) but that seems to be impossible.  Thanks for trying....if you can tell me how to contact Philips Customer service I will be grateful. CD-R are record only- use once.
Whilst 'Removing'  data makes it unavailable  you do not get the space back.
Example suppose you had 500 Mb on a 700 Mb disc.
Giving 200 mb  space to use .
'Removing' some or all the the 500 will not get  space back
it simple makes the file unreadable - does not remove it.

CD-RW's are rewritable, but are considered  unreliable

- My last comment re the RW stands - if well used, time to consign to the bin[recycle I hope]
Nothing to do with the recorder- except wear and tear of  course and if this too is several years old you must also consider this - the laser burns out,
There are several of these for recording CD's and DVD's
Once more these items  are to be considered  'Disposable'
There will be no 'Repair' option
Only new kit that has failed which will  be replaced under warranty.
