Question about Canon PowerShot S3 IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

I found the timer control button by the shutter on my Canon PowerShot S3is and can see what it does on the display. How do I take time-delayed photos?

I need help to figure out how to use the timer. I can see it on the display screen when I press the small black button by the shutter but I don't know how to actually have it take a time-delayed photo

After you select it with the small black button, it should kick in by pressing the regular shutter button.
Make sure the timer icon is showing...
Give it a test run...that should do it.

With the camera in the shooting mode, press the bottom of the multicontroller. You should see a set of icons displayed vertically on your LCD, with a square at the top and a couple of circles with a 2 and a 10. Press the bottom of the controller again to highlight either the circle with the 2 (2 second delay) or the circle with the 10 (10 second delay). Press the Set button to select. To return to normal shooting mode, repeat the process but select the square at the top.

Of course it does, it has full manual control (M), but may I suggest first trying "shutter priority" (Tv). This mode lets you set shutter speed up to 15 seconds, but it automatically sets the aperture to match the shutter speed that you set. Merely turn the mode dial to Tv, then use the right/left buttons to select the shutter speed.

Now before pressing the shutter button, may I also suggest that you use the camera's shutter delay timer to take the picture (this will eliminate any shake from you pressing the button). Just press the function button to bring up the menu. then find the timer setting (try 2 seconds).

Here's where you can download your camera's user manual if you want to read more on what your camera can do:
