Check out this site and compare your system with system requirements.
    windows ultimate system

it sounds to me as though your system may not be able to run vista.
you may need to upgrade something.

My laptop is not picking up my graphics card

A graphics card upgrade is a common upgrade for computers, especially on systems intended for gaming and design.
There are many different issues that might cause your computer to not properly recognize your new graphics card.

It might take some time to isolate the graphics card issue, but most fixes are easy for a home user.

Turn off the computer and unplug the power cord from the back.
Check the physical connections of the video card.
Ensure that the power supply connector is properly attached.
Check that the card is firmly inserted into the AGP or PCI-E slot.
If you are unsure that it is installed correctly, check the manufacturer's documentation and reinstall the card.
Download the latest graphics card driver from the manufacturer's website.
In most cases, you'll be downloading from NVIDIA or ATI.
Install the proper driver for your operating system and graphics card model.
The installation process is the same for most graphics driver installations.
Click "Next" and "I accept the license agreement," choose a location to install the driver, and continue clicking "Next" until the installation is complete.
Restart the computer when prompted and check if the problem is fixed.
Installing the wrong driver can cause problems with Windows recognizing the graphics cards.

Go to "Start" and right-click "My Computer."
Choose "Properties."
Select the "Hardware" tab and click the "Device Manager" button.
Look under the "Display Adapters" section for an entry listing your graphics card.
If the entry is listed with an exclamation mark or a question mark, there is an issue with the card being detected.

Otherwise, it has been detected correctly.

Try several different versions of drivers if the card is still not recognized properly.
Check the manufacturer forums and support sections for recommended driver versions.
Some graphics cards are more stable on older versions of the card, or there may be beta drivers that will fix the issue.
Update the motherboard drivers as well. Sometimes compatibility issues between a motherboard and graphics card are fixed with new drivers.

Contact the manufacturer for a video card replacement if it is still not recognized.
Hardware issues can manifest in many ways, and it may not be possible for the card to be detected correctly with a physical problem.

I cant change my dell pc screen resolution that is stuck on 480x640

You need to get the correct video drivers for your Graphics card or on-board graphics chip. Just go to the support site of the graphics card or if it's on-board video go to the support site of the motherboard to get the proper drivers. Once the correct drivers are installed, you will be able to increase the resolution.

Here is the support site for Dell:

Display drivers wont work

Dear,

There are two points.
1. Ensure that you are downloading and installing the correct driver for your graphic card.

2. If the fist condition is fulfilled then unplug the graphic card and check the system with the built in graphic card in motherboard and install its driver and get its functionality. When you are ensured that system is working with its own built in graphics then plug it again properly and install the driver. Ensure the proper plugging of your graphic card. Sometimes improper plugging of card cause this issue.

The second step will confirm the two things. one that your motherboard is functional with its own card and the reason is extra graphic card plugged in slot.. and the 2nd is that the card itself causing the issue not the motherboard and the issue was replugging...

best of luck...feel free to ask more...

Computer doesn't use Graphics Card

if it has a exclamation sign on it and it is in yellow it means the driver is missing .Even if you installed some driver it is not for this card ..If you know the card name ..and so...just go to the manufacturer's support site and download the driver for your operation system and run it again .This will fix teh issue for sure.If you have an on-board graphic card ..the driver should be on the motherboard's disk with the other drivers..if the card is separately on agp or pci ..it should have its own disk ..Always run the proper driver for the operation system you use..and exact driver for the device ..they rarely work for related models from the same manufacturer..but only sometimes..You always need to get the one for this device .and be sure when you load it that you installed it and had no errors.
Let me know if you need further assistance ..in locating the driver ..but only if you have information about the graphic card ..otherwise I don't know what to look for ..
have a nice day ..and please rate my answer..it helps my activity here !

Sony viao pcg-k25 upgraded to vista, ati graphics wont install. says "try installing a vga driver'

First, you need to verify if you are installing the correct driver. If you upgraded the OS to Vista, then the CD that came with your laptop for your ATI graphics possibly does not carry any Vista driver.

Check the CD (driver) and verify if it has a Vista driver. If it does not have it, then, get the exact model number of your ATI graphics card and download the Vista driver.

However, it would be safe to contact the manufacturer and ask them if they have Vista driver.

This is the only issue that I'm thinking of.

Good luck!

GRAPHIC CARD NOT RESPONDING PROPERLY

Hiya rabindoo,

Are you using the onboard graphics or have you installed a different graphics card in one of the PCI slots?

Either way, most problems (in my limited experience) like yours are solved by updating the grapics adapter driver. Go to the ASUS site (or the site of your graphics card, if you installed one) and look for downloads in the support section. Most sites have a search engine where you can plunk in your system information which makes the task of finding the correct, latest driver a lot easier.

Save the file to your desktop and run it from there. It should update after you reboot your system.

Hope this helps.

Regards, redqew
