Tip: The max point reward for answering a question is 15.
For a decent reset that will reset most problems make sure the phone is turned on, then just take the battery out, wait at least 30 seconds so the phone can discharge. Then put the battery back in and turn on. Solves 99% of issues.
You'll need PIN2. If that doesn't work then phone is reported lost/stolen and is blacklisted, ie phone wont work, but still can be used as music player...
Please do this.Type *#7370# in your mobile phone,it will ask whether
you want to restore factory settings give yes and it will ask for the
code the default code is 12345.Give the code and wait for some time
your phone will restart and you will see that your factory settings are

I have tried to remove the vertical menu's while maintaining the horizontal shortcuts above, but it doesn't seem possible via the N95 menu. I'm sure there's a more extreme method, but that would be way too much of a pain....
Anyhow, if you would like to remove all of the shortcuts, here's the procedure (N95 non 8GB):
Settings -> General -> Personalisation -> Standby Mode -> Active Standby (OFF)
On my old N95, Settings are under "Tools" in the main menu, however, this may have changed on the newer versions. Although this may not strictly be the procedure for the 8GB version, hopefully it will help.
