That card is not compatible with your system. The 8gb, try going to a 4 gb, remember that even a 1 gb holds alot of pictures if taken properly so you dont need to spend and outrageous amount of money. My wife is a professional photographer and we only use 2gb cards even though the camera could hold more. For our convience and the convienve for the consumer.

No specific type they all work just as good. Of course the ones that cost more money download faster onto the computer or whereever you are going to get the prints developed but they are all the same

Purchased SD 8 mg for my coolpix 4800. Message"canno use this card"

First of all, did you format it in the camera? If you don't know how, see page 98 of the Coolpix 4800 manual by following this link: http://cdn-10.nikon-cdn.com/pdf/manuals/coolpix/CP4800_en.pdf.

I would also check the write protect tab on the SC card (Look on page 11 in the manual). If it is in the wrong position, your camera will not be able to write to the card and that could account for the message.

Another possibility is that you have an incomparable SD card. According to page 101 of the manual, the smallest cards listed are 16MB and yours is 8MB. I doubt that it would be a problem though.

Flash memory technology has advanced since your camera was made. It is a SLIGHT possibility that you bought an SDSC or SDXC card for your camera. These newer card types may be too fast for your camera.

Camera wont read the disk

Coolpix cameras do not have a disk; they use an SC memory card. When you put a new SC card in the camera, you must format it before you use it. Go into your camera's Menu. Under Setup, you will find "Format memory card". Once your SC card is formatted it should work.

My nikon coolpix p2 camera says this memory card cannot be used, but it is a new memory card.

Have you formatted the memory card? When you buy a new memory card, you must go in your camera's menu and find the "format memory" selection and perform the format function. Once formatted by your camera, it should work.

the 4800 is a older model that won't support a sdhc card-go back to 2gb or smaller and problem solved-don't waste money on high speed cards for a basic point and shoot camera

Your memory card has a little switch on the side of it called the Write Protect Switch. If it is in the Locked position, the camera will tell you the memory card is protected. Just take the memory card out and slide the switch to the unlocked position. You should be able to take pictuers now.

Did the 1st card ever work? (i.e. is the camera new to you). After many uses, the memory cards need to be reformatted (thru your Setup menu). Post the make and model of the cards and we can check to see if they're compatible w/ your camera.
