I had a westell modem for my Bellsouth DSL connection, so it should work, but it needs to be registered with your ISP

Trying to access DSL with HP modem

If you mean you're trying to use DSL service with the modem that came built into an HP computer, you can't. That modem is for dial-up Internet service only, or if you want to use your computer as a fax machine along with a scanner or all-in-one printer.

To connect to DSL, you'll need a DSL modem. If you're just getting service, your service provider should have supplied one. (Actually, I think you have the option now of ordering DSL service and not getting a modem if you already have one. Maybe you did this.) The DSL modem has a telephone-type jack to connect to the phone line (same as on the HP modem), but the connection to your computer is through a different, larger, jack usually labeled "Ethernet" or "Computer". If you don't have a modem, you can easily find them for sale. You can buy new ones at retailers who sell computers, and many used ones are available on eBay or on your local Craig's list.

Another possibility is that you already have a DSL modem and are asking how to connect an addtional computer. If this is so, you don't connect the new computer to the DSL phone line. Instead, you need to share the network connection coming from the modem. This is done using a router, which allows several computers to use the same connection either through a cable or wirelessly. The DSL modems typically supplied now have the router built in, with 4 connections for wired computers and wireless capability as well. If your modem is an older one intended for a single connection only, it will have just one network connection. If this is the case for you, you'll need to supply your own router.

The problem may be with the DSL connection, not the modem. Whenever my DSL connection starts dropping frequently it turns out to be something Verizon has to repair.

Yes. D-LINK would be *STUPID* to try to market a router that is *NOT* compatible with *ALL* cable-modem (or DSL-modem) units.

Can the microsoft MN700 Router be used with cable internet instead of DSL from the phone company?I switched from Verizon DSL to Comcast Cable internet but can not find an answer if the MN700 is compatible...

I would say yes but i have not tested it personaly, but what i know about routers it should work with. Cable internet and dsl are exactly the same thing. The only difference is how its delivered to your house and the speed of it.

DSL tands for "Digital Subscriber Line." It is medium for transferring data over regular phone lines and can be used to connect to the Internet

cable the same thing except it is internet though the cable line. you u run the out of your

you probably wont even have to change any settings on it either. the line out of the back of your cable modem will plug into the same spot the old cable ran to when you just had dsl.

if this has been helpful please mark it has fixya. also please rate me, and if you have found it very helpful or informative please recommend me.

Will my DSL 300G Modem work

it will work if the subscription would also be an adsl line. but you need to know the new providers settings including type of connection (pppoe, dhcp, etc) and the vci settings. once you place the settings correctly, it will work.

Hi, i have wnr2000 and am trying to set it up. i'm at the setup wizard which says that i already have a valid internet connection. what does this mean and what do i do next?

Basically you need to sign up with an Internet Service Provider in your area. The ISP will advise you the type in modem/Internet connection you need for their service (ie. DSL or cable) and advise you or provide you with a compatible DSL or cable modem. The ISP will provide an installation disc or instructions to configure the modem so it connects with their Internet server.
The modem is then connected to the wnr2000 router's Internet/WAN port with a LAN cable.
If you have already configured the modem and connected it to the wrn2000 router and the setup wizard has detected that you already have a valid Internet connection (it has detected your TCP/IP address which your Internet Service Provider has given you - this IP address is your unique network address - it is similar to your house address in your street, in your suburb, in your state, and in your country). Just click OK and continue with the setup.
