The hinge itself shouldnt affect the usb port but if it was broken off by quite a force, then it possibly took some damage. I'd suspect you'd be able to see if it was from a close and careful visual inspection.

Connect the camera to the computer and then, and only then turn the camera's power on.
Try another USB cable yet?

If you are using Windows XP or Vista, you dont need additional software. The operating system will find the USB device and it will show up in My Computer as that device, as a "drive".

Simply open that item and find the graphic (jpg?) files within. They may be a few directories deep. Another option is to remove the camera's memory card and read it in a card reader device.

I never install the camera's software. I just copy the pictures from the camera to my computer and view/edit them with something like Irfanview (free).

Kodak z710 I cannot transfer photos onto my computer.

It may be time to buy a card reader for your computer. You can get one at a department or electronics store for not much more than a cup of coffee.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Camera shuts off when plugged into computer wont turn on while plugged in trying to put pics on computer

The camera needs battery when connected. Please use lithium batteries Ni-Mh or rechargeable Batteries (2000 M.Amp or higher).

NOTE The cameras LCD screen will remain black throughout the transferre.

If you're experiencing that the computer is not reacting to the camera at all try the following:

Remember you need to turn the camera on when transferring.
Try a different USB outlet
Try a different cable
Try a different computer.

If all fails please contact KODAK in order to arrange a repair or order a new cable. Remember your USB cable is covered under the same warranty as your camera, so remember your serial number when calling:

CANT TRANSFER PICS

Daisyramon, Have you checked the lock tab on your digital card that stors the pictures? You may have inaverdentally pushed the slide lock by accident to the protected side. If you did just push it back to the oposite side of the card. Hope this helps you. I always pull my card from the camera and insert it in the USB port on the front of my computer and open my pictures there and also transfer any to the card from the computer.

Hi Tanya

It sounds like something was corrupted when you transferred your pictures to the computer.

If you have all the pictures safely on your computer, it will be ok to reformat the memory card and then just copy and paste the pictures back to the card.

Insert the card in your card reader, go to My Computer, you should be able to see the card as a removable drive. You can click and open it just like a folder and see what is on the card.

I would also back up the pictures to an external drive or dvd so they are extra safe!
