SOURCE: need help with my Gold Star microwave.

The owner's manual won;t tell you that, only the repair or service manual.

While we don't have that exact model, we do have the manual for a similar model uploaded here.

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

It may be the fuse, which is usually located behind the grille or on the floor of the oven behind the control panel or between the door switches.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout (TCO) / thermal fuse on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the magnetron thermostat to open.

Then when it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

When checking thermostats, if it has a hood fan thermostat, that should read open, as opposed to the others, which should read closed.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If it goes dead or blows the breaker (or GFI) when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or a loose fuse holder, or even an intermittent fuse.

You should do a continuity test on the fuse while it's in the holder (with the microwave unplugged, of course) then turn the fuse by hand or take it out and put it back in, then test it again.

If you remove the fuse, then press the meter leads against the ends, it can allow internal contact to be made and make a bad fuse appear to be good.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

Try the TURNTABLE ON/OFF pad. Touch this pad to turn off the turntable or turn it back on. “OFF” will appear in the display when the turntable is turned off.

Do you mean MV1615?

If so, we have the service manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you. You will need the free Adobe Reader to view or print it.

You may need a new turntable motor or coupler.

SOURCE: need help with my Gold Star microwave.

i just took out my fuse on the same model. you have to pull down the microwave and take cover off. there should be like 6 screws on backside and cover will slide back and off. then you will see a fuse cover with a small cylinder fuse in a plastic cover. pull it out and check continuity with volt meter. mine unfortunately came up good still, so i dont know what kinda problem mine is having. had a short in light and it popped and power was gone. good luck!!

I have a Maytag Microwave/Hood MMV4203DS00. Twenty minutes after its last use as a microwave oven, the Vent Fan spontaneously went on and the Display Shows: VENT...FAN..--5E-- (or SE?). The microwave...

"SE" error means you have a shorted membrane keypad.
On this model, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so the control panel frame assembly (which comes with a new keypad) would have to be ordered and replaced.

It's actually a pretty simple DIY repair.

The frame assembly is part number W10258190 and you can get it for $67.98 (subject to change) from the Pros here. You can also order the thermostat (part number WB27X10567 ) from them.

Their is a video here showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad as per the photo below.

Some connectors on the relays have a lock:

Microwave is locked up. Says Lock on screen and cannot get it to go away after hitting Clear several times. How do I get it off "lock" status?

HELLO.

GE manufactures various models of microwaves with a range of features.
Among them is a child safety feature that allows parents to lock the keypad. Though children can still open the door, the keypad lock prevents them from starting the microwave. The lock is in the form of a keypad code that renders the buttons inactive.

* 1 Press and hold the "Clear/Off" button on the microwave's keypad.
* 2 Hold the button down for three seconds.
* 3 Wait for the "L" on the keypad's display to disappear and display the time instead, signifying that the device is no longer locked.

Willing to help solve more problem.

Thanks.

Received an error code SE on my microwave range hood. I was not using this appliance when all of a sudden it started beeping

"SE" means you have a shorted / shorting membrane keypad. It's not uncommon for it to be intermittent or partially operable.

On some models, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame. That is a simple do it yourself job.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (with suffix) from the tag on the oven here.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad (as per the photo below) and move the circuit board into your frame.

Some connectors on the relays may have a lock:

On other models, you peel off the old one and stick on a new one.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved. It's here.

Or we can do that for you.

Error code SE on Maytag Microwave

The error code SE stands for " Systems Error " which indicates there is a short in the keypad membrane causing the system to lock up. The only option is to have the keypad replaced for normal operation.

LG LMVM2055SB over the range microwave keys not working

Is it possible someone may have sprayed cleaner directly onto the keypad area?

This causes moisture to get into the keypad and sometimes onto the control board.

This could mean that they control panel frame with keypad (membrane switch) would need to be replaced.

Can you give more details on the cleaning?

Touch-pads unresponsive

Some newer models have a child lock feature which can be accessed via a HELP or CUSTOM HELP pad. On recent LG models, try pressing the "0" key for 5 seconds. You may also have a bad keypad, which in many cases can be replaced. A bad keypad may be worn out due to age, damaged, or it may have gotten wet or otherwise contaminated. Has anyone ever sprayed cleaner directly on the keypad? Has anyone ever boiled on the stovetop without running the hood vent fan? Is the hood vent clogged? Any of these can cause moisture buildup on the control circuit board or in the keypad, which can cause odd problems like this. I warn my customers to never spray cleaner directly onto the microwave keypad, since the liquid can get inside and "lock up" or even ruin the keypad or controller. Apply an alcohol-based cleaner (such as the purple kind) to a cloth (since paper towels can scratch) and gently wipe it off. I suggest to my customers that they NEVER use any ammonia-based cleaner (like the blue stuff) on a microwave, since the ammonia will crack and distort polycarbonate plastics. My microwave computer seems to be possessed

E4 normally indicates a problem with either the keypad or a sensor. Since the oven is resetting, it may be the keypad or even the control circuit board. Below is my info on keypads, which may help, followed by more info: You may also have a bad keypad, which in many cases can be replaced. KEYPAD TROUBLE A bad keypad may be worn out due to age, damaged, or it may have gotten wet or otherwise contaminated. Moisture and contamination can be caused by not using the fan when boiling on the stove top (for over the range models), direct spraying of cleaners, by storing the microwave in an unheated garage or shed, or infestation. DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING THE KEYPAD 1. The keypad connection is the green or blue translucent plastic strip that plugs into a connector near the edge of the control circuit board. 3. There are two tiny tabs (one on each side) on the hood of the connector that you can gently pull up on to unlock the connector. Use equal and gentle fingertip force when pulling up. 4. The old keypad strip will lift out. 5. Put the new keypad strip in, making sure both sides are down fully. (If you are not installing a new keypad, clean yours with a pencil eraser or a soft cloth and alcohol.) 6. While holding the strip down, push the connector hood back down to lock it. -- If your keypad (membrane switch) is bad, you should be able to get one here: http://www.samsungparts.com/search/search.asp If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk If you still have questions, please post again.
