SOURCE: Acer t180 SATA controller/bios stopped recognizing

If it just happened without any changes then it's probably a failure of the controller. You should probably check the bios just to make sure it's turned on. Also make sure there aren't any cabling problems. Your motherboard may have two controllers, a primary and secondary. Try swapping to the other cable. It's also a good excuse to get a new motherboard and cpu. The prices are really low lately.

There could be several causes to random lockups:

  1. Hardware issue
  2. Drivers
  3. Application conflicts
Things you can try:
  1. Run system diagnostics. Most systems now have built in diagnostics that can be run to see if there are hardware issues with the system. (I'm not familiar with newer Acers, but I expect that there should be some Acer tools on the Programs menu, or check your owner's manual.)
  2. Download and install the latest BIOS revision, Chipset utility and Video drivers from Acer's support website, even brand new, it may have been in the box up to 6 months, and there may have been new releases for issues discovered since MFG.
  3. Windows has some tools to help you check out conflicts. Start, RUN , MSCONFIG, (Or Msconfig on the search line of Windows 7 then right click if on the menu above, and run as administrator) this will open the Microsoft System Configuration Utility. You can disable startup items that may be causing conflicts (Simplest way is uncheck all items on startup tab and reboot, see if issues go away, if they do, then go back to MSCONFIG, add tip 1/2 of items back, reboot and see if issues return. If they do, issue is in top 1/2, uncheck 1/2 of items checked, reboot. Keep of this process of 1/2s till you isolate the problem items and leave it unchecked.
  4. If your system did not come with an active antivirus, then install one www.download.com has several free active antivirus applications, pick one,(I use AVAST) and install it an run a scan. You can also try Malwarebytes anti-spyware application (You can use it in addition to an antivirus)
  5. If issues persist, try removing one memory module, run the system, see if anything changes. If not try the other module by itself. If issue only occurs with one module, then it is likely defective.
  6. If issues persist, contact Acer support as system should be under warranty.

Win 8 install error

Unless I've muisunderstood, the OP knows the drive was corrupted and was trying to reinstall when he/she get the IRQ_NOT_EQUAL error. This is either a dodgy optical drive, or an AHCI issue. Look in the BIOS under SATA mode and set it to AHCI. Failing that, try another DVD drive. If neither of those work then you'll have to replace your hard drive I fear.

Hard disc not detected

I think this is not a recognizing issue ..but you should change the settings on the hard disk bus..Specially if it gives you a blue-screen error ..I think by default the hdd is running on sata ahci mode..and for this you need to load a 3rd party driver when you install the operation system ..If you reinstalled it recently .and it start doing the issues and said there is no drive present it this mode to be blamed...and you need to press f10 I think ..to get to bios ..and in there select under advanced settings the hard disk ..(or in the devices ) ..and under its settings locate the mode ..and disable the ahci and select sata like ide or ide compatible ..or ide mode..and press F10 to save the settings and restart ..In this moment if you have a operation system and its functional it will boot with no issues..
If you want to keep the ahci mode function on ..(its faster ) you need to reload teh operation system ..and insert the driver for ahci during it ..and select it from the location by browsing ..and install it as a 3rd party driver ..and will work ..It is needed for to recognize teh hard disk in the ahci mode..and run proper ..but if the mode is changed on ide compatible ..the driver is no longer needed and the system will run without it ..and the actual difference is not that visible ..unless you have a slow system with low ram memory ..and in this case you feel the difference ..

Bought new hard drive for mini 1012 dell bios sees new hard drive but when i try to install windows xp , xp says no mass storage device detected.

In the bios change the drive options to anything but AHCI if possible. You will need a windows xp driver and USB floppy disk to install the AHCI or SSD driver. It's also referred to as an F6 Floppy. Dell should have the download you need.

Acer aspire 4315

Take out the hard drive from the laptop and reseat it back into position. Sometimes reseating the hard drive will get it to be recognized by the BIOS. After you reseat the hard drive, go into the BIOS and see if its recognized in there. If it is then try to format the hard drive. If it still doesn't see it then your hard drive will need to be replaced.
