Motorguide brute 67 "stuck on high"

Ok I just purchased this trolling motor and replaced the variable speed switch (witch was removed probably due to this problem). When the motor is hooked up 12 volt all the speeds work but hooked up 24 volt only runs on high (no matter the position of the switch). So is this something I can fix and if so does anyone know what it is?

SOURCE: Ihave a motorguide brute hyper 67 trolling motor

This is most often caused by a faulty 24 Volt, section, (usually damaged output semiconductors, or the drive?) in the speed controller, fault, the only "Fix" is replacement. Simply obtain the entire speed controller and replace it "En Bloc" as it were. You will need to also obtain a service manual so you can disassemble it and obtain the parts numbers for the replacement parts.Otherwise take it to a professional and ask for a "Quote" as to prospective costings and go from there.

needs to go to a repair shop for a new resistor unit in the motor .or one of the wires going thru the shaft has broken .they fail dueto the constant flex from turning

I have lost speeds 1 thru 4 on a minn kota edge 70. 5 still works fine where should i start troubleshooting

Hello Richard,

It has been some time since I have been around trolling motors but it sounds if the variable speed sensor or switch is either corroded or burnt out. Since you had the speeds and they are slowly disappearing it sounds if the switch is failing. If you are somewhat mechanical and know how to test using a volt ohmn meter you can check the switch this way to see if it is the switch. If the switch tests fine then your circuit board in the motor head or foot pedal has gone bad.

Hope this helps some

My motorguide trolling motor keeps tripping the 50 amp in line breaker every time I turn it on high speed. It is a 75 lb thrust digital tour model. When I take it out of the water and run it on high...

All motors will draw higher amperage with varying loads. Your hi speed motor winding has probably shorted some its winding's without having gone to ground. It probably needs to be replaced to get your hi speed back. I have run into similar problems in heavy commercial hydronic pumps. Best to have mechanic check it out. An OHM test with factory specs. will tell for sure.

Vitamix variable speed not smooth

Some models had a weakness with the variable resistance in the rotary switch but your description sounds more like the main PCB or even the motor both of which are very expensive parts to replace.

I have a Motor Guide Brute 767, 67 lb thrust 24 volt trolling motor. It will only run at about half speed even with new batteries.

I believe you may have a bad low voltage circuit board problem. I do not think they make the board any longer but you may be able to convert it to work by bypassing the circuit board. I am working on one now.
