Question about Honeywell Focus 6300B 5-2 Days Programmable Thermostat Heater

1 Answer

I was moving thermostat about 15 inches, the only problem I didn't shut the power off. I think I might have shorted something out. It was a honeywell focuspro thermostat 5000 series, controlling a gibson heat pump. Any suggestions on how to analyze and fix.

If you have a meter on the indoor unit locate the transformer and check to see if getting 24v ac on the secondary side the primary side should be 220 most of the time their is only one of the wires that would of causes a short red to common the rest just transfer voltage to make the circuit some boards have a 5 amp fuse that will blow and some transformers have a reset button on the 5000 stat make sure that you are putting the wires in correct slots due to having two configurations conventional and heat pump

Why is my honeywell 8320r1003 short cycling for hot water heat.I have heat set at 65 degress.cycling 2min,3min,the most is 8min.

Hi Bill, after closing your thermostat, is this correct the situation?
And how far is your thermostat from your baseboard heater, if the baseboard is underneath the stat, you should move the stat elsewhere. Hope this help you find the problem.

Honeywell thermostat short and then went blank by mistake i short the thermostat with a wire and then became blank

Check the transformer in the air conditioner/heater. There should be a fuse on teh 24 volt side. Shut power off to the furnace. Locate and check the fuse. If there is no fuse, you probably destroyed the transformer.

Short burn cycles

if thats a new themostst it sounds like you didnt set the cycle dip switches correctly, the type of heat you have is unknown to the thermostat so you have to tell it or it may short cycle or overheat

Heat will not turn on after I took it down to paint the wall

if you didnot shut thew power off to your furnace before taking the t-stat off the wall then you probably shorted out the transformer in the furnace. the transformer supplies the system with 24v including the t-stat and can short out easily without sparks.

Is sounds like you wired it correctly, The black is a little unusual perhaps its blue, anyway, try disconnecting the wires from the thermostat and see if it shuts off. If so, then it may need to re calibrated. I will need some more info to help you anymore.
